Star Wars: Republic Commando

Aspyr has already brought a few classic Star Wars games to Switch – namely Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast, Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy, and Episode I Racer. The company now appears to be on the verge of releasing another past entry in the franchise on Nintendo’s console.

Update data for Star Wars: Republic Commando has been uploaded to Nintendo’s servers, which suggests that an official announcement (and probable release) will be made very soon. Aspyr is listed as the publisher. Other Switch titles have been leaked in a similar manner, including Fortnite, and Paladins.

Today, Nintendo revealed the next batch of classic games for Nintendo Switch Online. There will be three new SNES titles in addition to a new NES release.

Here’s the full rundown, along with a trailer:

Immortals Fenyx Rising

As part of its quarterly financial report today, Ubisoft revealed that the company is the top third-party publisher on Switch. Nintendo’s console has contributed to its bottom line.

Ubisoft chief financial officer Frederick Duguet stated:

More: ,

Back in January, Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night received its latest update, which was highlighted by the addition of Classic Mode. Interestingly, a second hidden mode was included as well.

1986 Mode can be unlocked on the Classic Mode title screen. It can be accessed after inputting the Konami Code (Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, [Horizontal Left Face Button]), [Horizontal Right Face Button]). After this, “1986 Mode” should appear on the bottom of the screen.

1986 Mode is a different take on Classic Mode. It includes several changes referencing the original Castlevania, including:

Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time

After much speculation, Activision has finally announced that Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time is coming to Switch. It will launch on March 12.

Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time first launched last October. Despite Activision not announcing a Switch version, it was listed for Nintendo’s console in the official website’s source code. Then shortly after release, fans spotted what appeared to be an internal profile for Switch in the game’s data.

Here’s an overview of Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time as well as the announcement trailer:

Little Nightmares II

System: Switch
Release date: February 11, 2021
Developer: Tarsier Studios
Publisher: Bandai Namco

Little Nightmares quickly became a much beloved hit among fans of horror and side-scrolling adventure gameplay, beautifully melding this sense of intense atmosphere with some of the most innovative and unique environmental designs the medium has seen. It had everything it needed to be, well, nightmare fuel, and capitalized on that artistically. Its big draw-back, however, was simply how short it was. Thankfully, Tarsier Studios went on to develop DLC in a perfectly priced package that expanded the game up to three additional hours, putting us in the shoes of The Runaway Kid as they too tried to escape from The Maw. Now with the release of Little Nightmares II, feedback was taken to heart and Tarsier Studios has made a bigger and better adventure, emphasizing more so the nightmare portion of its name with a stellar experience that gives everything I wanted the first time around, and goes even further with its disturbing themes and atmosphere that, with excellent sound design, brings together a must-play horror package.

GoldenEye 007

Over a decade ago, there was talk about GoldenEye 007 possibility coming to the Virtual Console on Wii and Xbox Live Arcade for the Xbox Live Arcade. That news is now being talked about again over a decade later following a major leak. Recently, a build popped up online of Rare’s GoldenEye 007 remake for the Xbox 360, showing that the project was almost complete.

Why was the game never released despite development almost being completed? It turns out that Nintendo – who published the N64 original – blocked it in the end.

Artist Ross Bury told Arstechnica:

Gal Gun Returns

System: Switch
Release date: February 12, 2021
Developer: Inti Creates
Publisher: PQube

The House of Dead, but with high schoolers. Time Crisis, but with teens. However one might try and describe it, there’s no getting around the fact that Gal Gun Returns is a very niche title – in a nutshell, it’s a rail shooter/dating-sim hybrid where you play as a high-school boy who must fend off swarms of desiring anime girls, all while pursuing the love interest of your choice. If that description makes you feel uncomfortable, then this game is decidedly not for you – but for those looking for a lighthearted, promiscuous romp through a Japanese high school, Gal Gun Returns is a competent but unremarkable experience.

For the past couple of decades, E3 has been the biggest gaming event of the year. Publishers and developers come together to show off games with media events, playable demos, and more. But like most major events, E3 was scrapped last year due to the coronavirus pandemic. The show is now hoping to make a partial return in 2021.

VGC is reporting that “the Entertainment Software Association (ESA) is pushing forward with plans for a digital event this summer, but it still requires the backing of major games companies.” Although the physical event has not yet been cancelled, “it’s understood that the digital show is now the focus for E3 2021, due to ongoing restrictions around the coronavirus pandemic.”

This year’s E3 would include the following:

Today, Nintendo celebrated Fire Emblem’s 30th anniversary with a special video. The company caught up with seven voice actors that have played the roles of some fan-favorite characters for in-depth discussions.
