Tetris Ultimate might be receiving a retail release, at least in Europe. Amazon UK has the game listed with a tentative boxart. What’s funny about this: Ubisoft still hasn’t even officially announced the 3DS version.

Nintendo of America senior director of communications Charlie Scibetta has commented further on the situation surrounding third-parties and Wii U.

Scibetta told Ars Technica:

“We want the same thing that the third parties want, which is to grow the installed base. We’re confident that if we can do that by driving the installed base through first-party software, like Mario Kart 8, like Super Smash Bros., then the third-party developers will follow because then they’ll see there’s a large enough installed base that it’s worth their investment to bring their games to our platform. So it’s our job to grow that installed base to make it more attractive for them to come to our platform.”

“Sure, everybody would like to have games earlier, but the good thing about Nintendo is that product quality is really important to us, so we would never ship it early just to help our bottom line or our financials for the holiday season. It’s much more important for us to protect the brand, the goodwill we’ve built up with fans over the years.”

“The good thing about Nintendo is we’ve been dedicated to gaming for over 30 years now, and it’s not like we do anything else. It’s not like we’re going to go away from what we do and try something different. We’re in for the long haul in gaming.”

A couple of prominent publishers have weighed in regarding their support for Wii U as well.

First up, Ubisoft:

“We think that by releasing good games from fan favorite brands, like Mario Kart, Nintendo is taking steps to increase the Wii U’s adoption. We have games coming out for the Wii U this year, including Just Dance 2015 and Watch Dogs. For any other games we announced at E3, it’s too soon to say.”

An EA spokesperson also said the following:

“So far, we haven’t announced any new titles for the Wii U, but that doesn’t preclude us from doing so in the future.”

According to Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot the pressure is on Nintendo this financial year with the Wii U, as another failed year for the system could cost the company third party support. In an interview with CVG, he had this to say:

“With Mario Kart, Wii U made one step and we expect with Smash Bros. it will also do more. If Nintendo put the right price on the machine then they will probably have a chance to do further,”

“We are coming with Watch Dogs and Just Dance this year. We also have another game on the shelves that we expect to come at some point when there will be more machines,”

“That game is waiting for more machines to be available,”

“We are also waiting for them to achieve more sales so that we can invest more. Because the problem we have with next-gen now here, is that we are seeing less games that are on next-gen and last-gen consoles.”

“Nintendo has to perform this year, otherwise they will have less games. Justifying investing in the machine needs a larger install base,”

Check out this exchange between IGN and Ubisoft’s CEO, Yves Guillemot:

“We are not going to stop those properties. We are going to work on them. The teams are really looking at what we can come with. I think you will really like what you see in the future. It could take some time to make sure we are really delivering what we want.”

IGN also asked Ubisoft Montreal CEO Yannis Mallat about the future of Prince of Persia. To this, he said “We have nothing to discuss at this time.”

Mallat also mentioned how he recently had lunch with Prince of Persia creator Jordan Mechner. “We’re friends,” Mallat said.

Just to follow up on our last post, we have a tiny bit of additional information about the title Ubisoft is holding back on for Wii U. CEO Yves Guillemot, speaking with Geoff Keighly for Spike’s E3 All Access Show, said it’s mainly targeted more towards “families and friends.”

He stated:

“What we have this year is two games. We have as you said Watch Dogs but we also have Just Dance. And we have another one we didn’t speak about yet. It will come. Just for Wii U… but it’s more for families, families and friends.”

Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot has spoken about the company’s declining support for Wii U as part of an interview with Polygon. You’ll find his comments below.

“We did adapt the number of products to the level of quantities that the machine did. So we will have Just Dance again which is well suited for the machine. We’ll have Watch Dogs. We have another couple of products that we are waiting to launch, specifically we have one game that we wait for the machine to be more mass market to launch.”

“We don’t have a number. We need the sales to increase so it becomes more and more mass market then we will have the volume that will justify massive marketing and TV marketing.”

“I hope so. We have a game that has been done for six months. It’s on the shelf, waiting for more families to have the console.”

“I think it (ZombiU) was so adapted to the Wii U so (bringing it to another platform) would be difficult to do. Maybe it will come to other platforms, but not as a full game. It was really developed for that type of machine.”

“Nintendo is really coming up with fantastic games,” he said. “They could, with the right price and very good games, help the machine start selling.”

“It could never come out. It could come out on another format… ”

“I think we have to wait for Smash Bros. to come. Smash Bros has always been a big, big property for Nintendo and for gamers. And we all know that there are lots of Nintendo fans that are waiting for big games to come. We know they are coming. We don’t know if they will still be there. I think when I speak with the fans that come to E3 90 percent of them are crazy Nintendo fans. They really love Nintendo and the games they do.”

On another note, Guillemot officially confirmed that Watch Dogs is coming to Wii U in November.

Ubisoft does have something planned for Wii U after all. During its E3 presser – currently ongoing – the company announced the latest Just Dance game, Just Dance 2015. The game will be released this October.

When Watch Dogs released across a number of platforms last week it quickly became one of Ubisoft’s best selling titles. However, many Nintendo fans are still itching to play the game and hoping for a solid release date for the Wii U version. Well, Ubisoft have confirmed today through PR communications that the game is still slated for a 2014 Fall release on Wii U.

A PR stunt has gone seriously wrong for Watch Dogs in Australia, as Mumbrella report that a bomb squad had to be called to newsstation Ninemsn’s office. Apparently a package arrived with a letter and a small safe, with instructions for the addressee to check their voicemail. Of course with no voicemail to check, a pin was punched into the safe, it started beeping and… Things started to escalate. After checking with other newsrooms to see if they’d received something similar, staff eventually were evacuated and the bomb squad was called. Ninemsn’s Hal Crawford told Mumbrella “This is definitely the other side of the line in terms of what is safe for a PR company to send anonymously to a newsroom. The thing was black, heavy and slightly creepy.” After the bomb squad was called, the safe was carefully opened… and a copy of Watch Dogs was found.

But any publicity is good publicity right?
