Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin

Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin was a long journey to completion for Edelweiss. After five years in development, the game finally released in November. It’s out now on Switch and other platforms.

Director Nal and CG artist Koichi were kind enough to take some time to speak with us as part of a new interview about the game. We were able to learn more about Sakuna’s origins, including Nal’s desire to create an action RPG going back to his days as a student. Other discussion topics included other games that inspired the project, working with Switch, and even how much rice was consumed during development.

Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin

Nintendo Everything recently had the chance to speak with Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin director Nal and CG artist Koichi. Although the team at Edelweiss typically doesn’t pursue sequels, we couldn’t help but ask if we could see a follow-up to the Switch game one day. It’s impossible to deny Sakuna’s strong reception and sales, and we already know that it’s doing pretty well having sold over 500,000 copies in less than a month.

When asked if we could see more from the Sakuna universe, Nal had this to say:

Another update for Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin was made available on Switch this week, and version 1.04 can be downloaded now. It comes with adjustments, improvements, and bug fixes.

Update (12/8): Amazon UK has opened pre-orders for the Story of Seasons: Pioneers of Olive Town Deluxe Edition here. It ships to the U.S. for those that prefer this version.


Original; (12/3): Earlier today, the Story of Seasons: Pioneers of Olive Town Premium Edition was announced. Amazon is now taking pre-orders here.

The Story of Seasons: Pioneers of Olive Town Premium Edition includes a 13.5” by 24” cloth poster and a 2.5” tall by 4” long buffalo pocket plushie. Of course, you’ll be getting a physical copy as well.

Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin received a new patch this week, bringing the game to version 1.03. The update is mostly intended to fix a few issues.

Story of Seasons: Pioneers of Oliver Town

XSEED and Marvelous have revealed a pair of special releases for Story of Seasons: Pioneers of Oliver Town.

In North America, fans will be able to purchase the physical Deluxe Edition. Copies include a copy of the game, a 2.5” by 4” pocket plushie of title mascot “Buffy” the buffalo, and a 13.5” by 24” cloth poster featuring the full key illustration for the game. Pricing is set at $59.99.

Rune Factory 5

A new batch of details and screenshots are in for Rune Factory 5, largely focusing on the game’s characters. We get to learn about romance options Fuuka, Ludmilla, Murakumo, and Lucas as well as townspeople Misasagi and Elshe.
