No April Fools’ Day news story from us, but we do have something that fits in with the festivities…

The Donkey Kong Country series is well known for the high quality of its music. With the atmospheric score of David Wise, the quirky tunes of Eveline Fischer and the unforgettable melodies of that other guy, it’s a franchise full of famous songs. So with that in mind, it’s worth highlighting the finest tracks that formed the soundtrack to our childhoods. Here are ten of the best tracks inspired by the hit video game:

The Ace Attorney anime will debut in Japan in just a matter of hours. But there’s good news for fans in overseas territories. Specifically, it’s been announced that Crunchyroll has picked up the series.

Crunchyroll members will be able to watch the first Ace Attorney anime episode with English subtitles on April 2 at 7 AM ET / 4 AM PT. That’s just a little while after it airs in Japan. This process will continue each Saturday from here on out.

Guitar Hero Live, the developer behind Guitar Hero Live, has been hit with layoffs. Although not confirmed, Eurogamer has heard that roughly 50 people have been made redundant. FreeStyle’s website indicates that 100 staff were housed at the company.

Activision’s official statement is as follows:

Activision and FreeStyle Games leadership have been considering a range of future options for the studio, and have been consulting with staff to explore all alternatives. The collective team have now reached the end of a consultation exercise and the decision has been made to restructure FreeStyleGames to better align the studio resources with future business needs. We are working with the studio teams to explore options to rebalance staff within Activision Blizzard and its related organisations.

The UK remains a key market for Activision Blizzard and FreeStyleGames continues to be a great partner. We thank all of the team for their continued passion, creativity and commitment.

Activision previously stated in February that Guitar Hero Live experienced “lower than expected performance”.

SEGA acquired Atlus back in 2013. That process is still ongoing, but is now starting to wrap up. Going forward, SEGA will be publishing all Atlus USA games as a means to streamline its business operations.

The good news is that this news will have little impact on consumers. SEGA isn’t ditching the Atlus brand, and Atlus will still act independently.

SEGA provided Game Informer with the following comment regarding how the Atlus acquisition has benefited the company:

“Since Atlus U.S.A.—renowned for the award-winning Shin Megami Tensei, Persona, and Etrian Odyssey franchises—integrated with SEGA of America, the ATLUS expertise has allowed SEGA to localize and publish popular Japanese titles in the west, including the Yakuza series, Project DIVA series, and more.”

In other news, Ivo Gerscovich has been named as the new head of the Sonic brand and its related businesses in North America, Europe, the Middle East, and Australia. He’ll serve as the Sonic chief brand officer and senior vice president of SEGA of America.

IGN recently had the opportunity to speak with Nintendo’s Bill Trinen about Miitomo, Nintendo’s future on mobile, and My Nintendo.

First, here’s what Trinen had to say about Miitomo and keeping the app updated going forward:

“Our development team is looking at it very much as just the initial release. They do have plans to continue to update. They’ll probably start by looking at how people are playing with Miitomo and how they’re interacting with it. But I think they’re looking at a couple of different ways that Miitomo will grow over time.”

“Certainly some of the updates are the addition of new outfits or new versions of the Miitomo drop mini-game, which you play using game tickets. You can even see, on the simpler side, updates to the questions you’re asked. But I also think they’re going to be looking longer term at the opportunity to do bigger updates that might add in new features and expand the experience.”

Nintendo’s North American website is now updated to show the new interface for its game store. Access it here.

It’s now easier than ever to buy a game from Nintendo’s website and have it download to your system. Even better, your eShop balance can be used during the purchase process. Things are much more intuitive than they used to be!

Natsume has published the second portion of its winter Q&A with fans. You can see what the company had to say in part 1 here.

In response to a fan wondering if there’s any news about Medabots, Natsume shared the following:

Nothing new to report on the Medabots front. We’re sadface too. We’re happy we were able to launch all four GBA games (Medabots and Medabots AX, both Rokusho and Metabee editions) on the Wii U Virtual Console. And we are definitely hopeful we’ll get a chance to localize another game in the future.

Natsume also weighed in on how it chooses games for localization:

We have a few guidelines for choosing titles. The first is that the game needs to fit into our company model. That is to say, it is a unique and niche title that has the ability to grow its respective market. Second, we don’t release games that would be rated M. We like to keep everything family friendly. We love taking chances of quirky and special games that might not ever make it to the western market, such as Chulip, A-Train, or Afrika. There are a lot of other factors as well, but those are the basics.
