Nintendo has been known to have a heavy presence at The Game Awards. Whether it was showing some of the first Zelda: Breath of the Wild gameplay, announcing Bayonetta 3, or revealing a new Smash Bros. character, the company usually has one – if not more – big things to show.

Last year was arguably the biggest year for Nintendo fans at The Game Awards. Nintendo itself dropped the news about Joker coming to Smash Bros. Ultimate as the first DLC character, and also unveiled Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 – something nobody saw coming. On top of that, we even got some pretty big third-party announcements thanks to the likes of Mortal Kombat 11, Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled, and Sayonara Wild Hearts.

[Let’s Talk] Thoughts on amiibo, five years later

Do you remember the early days of amiibo? Nintendo first announced the merchandise line during its E3 2014 video presentation and had only confirmed plans for Super Smash Bros. at the time. The launch would take place in November, and things quickly took a crazy turn after the figures became scarce. amiibo were selling for ridiculous amounts on eBay and people camped out at stores for a chance to obtain the new collectibles.

Here we are nearly five years later, and the situation is much different. Nintendo is still continuing with amiibo, though perhaps not quite as much as it did even a couple of years ago. Smash Bros. is going strong, but Zelda: Link’s Awakening was the only other Nintendo game in 2019 to be accompanied by a new figure.

Since the fifth anniversary of amiibo is almost here, how is everyone feeling about it today? Are you trying to collect every Smash Bros. figure, or have you given up on that quest? Do you view amiibo favorably or unfavorably? Let us know in the comments below.

[Let’s Talk] Super Smash Bros. Ultimate DLC characters you’d like to see

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate still has a long life ahead of it. Just went some may have thought that DLC for the game could be coming to an end, it was revealed during last month’s Nintendo Direct that even more characters are on the way.

Thus far, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate players have been able to get their hands on Joker, Hero, and Banjo-Kazooie through DLC. We also know that Fatal Fury fighter Terry Bogard has been confirmed. That means the Smash Bros. Fighter Pass has one more character left, and then an unspecified amount of roster additions will follow.

Let’s think about Super Smash Bros. Ultimate’s future for a second. Are there any characters in particular you’d like to see join? The possibilities are still endless. If you have any thoughts to share, let us know in the comments below.

[Let’s Talk] September 2019 Nintendo Direct reactions

The latest Nintendo Direct was held this week. There were quite a few announcements, especially from third-parties, during the 40-minute broadcast.

As far as new stuff from Nintendo goes, the company actually closed things out by announcing Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition for 2020. Other highlights include Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE Encore and Super Kirby Clash. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate was given the spotlight by the reveal of Terry Bogard, the release of Banjo-Kazooie, and confirmation that even more DLC is on the way. We also can’t forget that SNES games have finally joined Nintendo Switch Online.

Third-parties were present in a big way, such as Overwatch which started the Nintendo Direct. Other announcements include Deadly Premonition 2 (and the original game seeing a shadowdrop on the eShop), Rogue Company, Divinity: Original Sin 2 – Definitive Edition, Return of the Obra Dinn, Star Wars: Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast, Doom 64, Assassin’s Creed: The Rebel Collection, and Devil May Cry 2.

[Let’s Talk] Nintendo remakes you’d like to see

Remakes and re-releases are showing no sign of slowing down in the gaming industry. For its part, Nintendo has produced quite a few remakes of its own. Zelda: Link’s Awakening, a redone version of the Game Boy classic, will soon be coming to Switch – and that’s just one example. Zelda has certainly seen its fair share of remakes, but other IPs like Metroid and Pokemon have been given the same treatment.

Is there an older Nintendo game that you hold near and dear to your heart that you’d like to be revitalized for the current era? That’s what the focus of our Let’s Talk topic this week. If you have any thoughts on the subject, please do share them with us in the comments.

[Let’s Talk] Your most wanted September game for Switch

Things were a bit slow for Switch in the first half of 2019, but the second half is picking up in a big way. From Nintendo alone, the company released Super Mario Maker 2 in June, Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 and Fire Emblem: Three Houses last month, and has Astral Chain arriving in a couple of weeks. The rest of the year looks packed, including a big September. Daemon X Machina, Zelda: Link’s Awakening, and Dragon Quest XI S are launching over three consecutive weeks. We’re not even mentioning third-party releases, which includes the likes of Spyro Reignited Trilogy.

Since September has so many heavy hitters for Switch, we want to know about which game (or games) you’re looking forward to the most. How many will you be purchasing? Are you planning on picking up Nintendo’s trio of published titles? Let us know in the comments below.
