Miyamoto still not ready to pursue VR
Posted on 9 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in General Nintendo, News | 25 Comments
Nintendo made a big announcement yesterday by revealing that its biggest IP will grace mobile platforms. In December, Super Mario Run will be out on iOS.
While Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto acknowledges that having Mario on new platforms can keep him relevant, virtual reality is another story. He feels that the reclusive nature of the technology isn’t a good fit just yet. nintendo also wants people to play “for a long time”.
Miyamoto told USA Today in a new interview:
“I would agree that adapting Mario to new platforms is a key to keeping him relevant. But we want families to play together, and virtual reality (which requires players to be closed off from the real world) doesn’t really fit well there. We also like people playing for a long time, and it’s hard to do that in VR.”

We’re assuming that a Ness amiibo restock should be on the horizon. With all of the certificate updates over the past couple of weeks, a bunch of figures might be returning soon.

During the N64 days, Seta was developing a promising-looking racer known as “Rev Limit”. It would have offered real-world driving with impressive graphical effects and a bunch of vehicles based on real marques. Unfortunately, after the company ran out of money, the project was cancelled.
Nearly two decades later, YouTuber RetroGameTV managed to obtain a prototype cartridge and N64 development kit in a Yahoo Auctions lot. The title screen even shows a copyright of 1999 even though most had assumed it had been scrapped a year prior.
We’ve posted RetroGameTV’s video below, which shows off racing, different tracks and cars, and more.
