Gunpei Yokoi

Gunpei Yokoi was involved with many projects at Nintendo on both the hardware and software front back in the day. But around the time that the unsuccessful Virtual Boy launched, Yokoi left the company. As it turns out though, that system’s failure wasn’t a direct cause of his departure.

Yokoi wrote about leaving Nintendo in the November 1996 issue of Japanese magazine Bungeishunju. Livedoor recently republished his piece, which gives us a chance to hear from him directly.

Kotaku offers the following translation:

Two of the Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle figurines have been heavily discounted. You can purchase Rabbid Mario and Rabbid Yoshi, saving $21.

Place an order here if interested. Since the figurines are normally $39.99, they’re essentially half off.

A few months ago, preliminary floor plans for E3 2018 were posted online. With just a month to go until the big event, we now have updated versions.

It’s true that the plans haven’t seen a major overhaul, especially when it comes to Nintendo. However, it’s worth getting a look at where things stand at the moment.

Sonic the Hedgehog

CNBC recently caught up with Haruki Satomi, the president and CEO of SEGA. There was some interesting discussion between the two sides about trying to make a turnaround with Sonic the Hedgehog after disappointing fans in the past, and wanting to focus on quality. Satomi was also asked if he believes Sonic can beat Mario – which he thinks is possible – but also pointed out how they’ve teamed up in the past for the Olympics titles.

Below are a few notable excerpts from the interview with CNBC:

Pre-orders for the statue will be going live on May 11. We’ll be sure to bring you all of the relevant information next week.

This week’s episode of Nintendo Minute has gone live. In today’s video, Kit and Krysta head on over to GameStop, and talk about some games and more on the way there. Check out the full episode below.

Thanks to TruExtent for the tip.

Nintendo has established a partnership with Random House Books for Young Readers, an imprint of Random House Children’s Books (U.S.), and Penguin Random House U.K. to publish a range of coloring and activity books for children.

Two of these books are actually already available. The Super Mario Official Sticker Book and The Legend of Zelda Official Sticker Book are out now, costing $12.99 each.

A few new rewards are up for grabs on My Nintendo Europe. Along with Splatoon 2 wallpapers, some discounts have been added.

The full lineup of latest rewards is as follows:

Pikachu

Siliconera has translated more comments from the new interview with Pokemon illustrators / designers Ken Sugimori, Atsuko Nishida, and Koji Nishino on Yomiuri. The three spoke about Pikachu in-depth, including why it was more of a “rare character” to find, a canned evolution called Gorochu, and more.
