Reggie says NES Classic Edition sold 2.3 million worldwide, stopping production to focus on the future

The last official sales figure for the NES Classic Edition was 1.5 million worldwide at the start of February. In an interview with TIME, Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime confirmed that this number has increased to 2.3 million.
Reggie also spoke about the response to the NES Classic Edition and how production was initially increased following demand:
“We had originally planned for this to be a product for last holiday. We just didn’t anticipate how incredible the response would be. Once we saw that response, we added shipments and extended the product for as long as we could to meet more of that consumer demand.”

Tekken 7 producer comments on possibility of Switch port
Posted on 7 years ago by Zack in General Nintendo, Switch | 40 Comments
In a recent interview with Gamespot, Tekken series producer Katsuhiro Harada commented on the possibility of Tekken 7 arriving on the Nintendo Switch. When asked about what the future would hold for Tekken 7 fans on the Switch, Harada had this to say:
“Officially, we can’t really comment on that because our company has strict policy about which titles we talk about for Switch. But personally, we’ve been so busy with trying to master up Tekken for the current platforms that we haven’t really had enough time to study the hardware. We couldn’t even buy it–it was sold out every time we went to look for it.”
Unfortunately, it seems like the possibility of Tekken 7 coming to the Switch is far in the future, at best. You can read the full interview here.

Speculation about Nintendo bringing out a SNES Mini emerged last week. The Wall Street Journal reporter Takashi Mochizuki was able to ask president Tatsumi Kimishima about the rumor at the company’s financial results briefing today, though unsurprisingly, he didn’t say much. Kimishima simply said that he has nothing to talk about now.

Genyo Takeda retiring from Nintendo
Posted on 7 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in General Nintendo, News | 9 Comments
Genyo Takeda has been working at Nintendo since the early 1970s. Sadly, his time with the company is coming to an end. A document included with Nintendo’s latest financial results confirms that he’s retiring.
Takeda was most recently assigned the role of Representative Director and “Technology Fellow” in 2015. He has largely worked on the hardware side of things at Nintendo, but was the director and producer of several titles such as Punch-Out!! and Pilotwings 64.
Ko Shiota should be taking over Takeda’s role. This should all be made official following the 77th Annual General Meeting of Shareholders on June 29.

Fire Emblem devs interested in using the “Echoes” name again if there are more remakes
Posted on 7 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in General Nintendo, News | 28 Comments
Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia is a remake of Fire Emblem Gaiden, the Japan-exclusive Famicom title. Using that “Echoes” name may not just be a one-time thing.
A new developer quote (probably from Nintendo Dream or another similar Japanese magazine) has one representative from Intelligent Systems saying that “Echoes” would probably be used again with another Fire Emblem make – if one were to be made.
The person stated:
“We put a lot of thought into a title like ‘echoes’ that can let older games ‘echo’ with the modern players. We were very pleased with it, and, if there were to be more remakes, we would likely use the “ECHOES” title again.”
Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia launched in Japan last week. It’s due out on May 19 in North America and Europe.
Thanks to Brian for the tip.

Kirby’s big birthday is here. The character (not to mention the series as a whole) is now 25 years old. In Japan, Kirby’s Dream Land debuted on April 27, 1992. That was the very first game in the series. Since then Kirby has starred in a massive amount of games as well as other titles such as Super Smash Bros.
