The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time

Eiji Aonuma has shared the one Zelda-related memory that moved him the most.

Back in the day, Aonuma received a fan letter from the mother of an elementary school girl who was sadly hospitalized due to an illness. She gave her daughter Zelda: Ocarina of Time to play.

After initially thinking that it would be impossible to complete, the girl started to get the hang of things and ended up deciding, “if Link is trying this hard, then I will, too!” – referring to her rehabilitation. “And before they knew it, she was back to her healthy self,” Aonuma said.

Check out Aonuma’s full words below.

A new Pokemon Mega Evolution has been revealed in this month’s issue of CoroCoro: Mega Metagross. In Pokemon Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire, Elite Four Champion Daigo uses a Mega Brooch to evolve his Metagross.

Around the Water Cooler is the latest feature we’re introducing on Nintendo Everything. It’s mainly being led by Scott – someone who you may have seen before if you’ve checked out his Unlikely Review video (more of those are hopefully coming soon by the way!).

So here’s the deal. Around the Water Cooler is you’re opportunity to sound off on Nintendo-related subjects. Every two weeks, Scott will come up with a new topic (we are definitely welcoming topic ideas from you guys), and discussions will be held in each post. The subsequent video will highlight select comments about the previous topic made on both the main site and/or on YouTube.

Scott wanted me to let you know that this first video is a bit of a pilot. We already have a few improvements in mind, and your comments/interest will shape Around the Water Cooler’s future. Also: you’ll see more than just a silly green screen next time!

And now for this week’s topic: 2D vs. 3D Mario…

Eiji Aonuma

The Legend of Zelda series producer Eiji Aonuma sounded off about a variety of topics relating to the franchise in a recent feature published on Nintendo’s Japanese website.

Speaking about the types of things that are interesting in Zelda, Aonuma said:

It is said that one of the interesting things about “Zelda” is the “nazotoki” (nazotoki literally means “solving a puzzle or riddle”). Whenever I think “solving a puzzle”, I just want it to not be too difficult or overly complicated. It would be better to use a “gimmick” or “trick”. That might be better. Various gimmicks are hiding in the world of Link’s adventures, so getting to discover it yourself and thinking about things such as “Can I use this?” or “I wonder if this can be used,” and you also think when you see a certain reaction in the world. We love this kind of continuous discovery, and we find it very fun.

We also recently translated a few quotes from Aonuma in which he discussed the joy in finding treasure. You can find those comments right here.
