Aonuma always thinks he’s making his last Zelda game, but ends up wanting to make another one in pursuit of perfection
Posted on 11 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in General Nintendo, News | 0 comments
Eiji Aonuma has been heavily involved with The Legend of Zelda since Ocarina of Time. Given how he’s played a major role in the series for over 15 years, it’s only natural that thoughts crop up about moving on. There’s one major element that keeps Aonuma going, however: the pursuit of perfection.
Aonuma admitted to GamesTM in its previous issue, “I always make these games with the thought that this is going to be my last.” But he ends up having regrets and wishing certain things could have been implemented, which motivates him to work on another Zelda title.
“I guess that could come to a close if I finally make a perfect game,” Aonuma said, “but perhaps I would not be able to create such a thing even if I spent my whole life on it.” Aonuma understands that he’ll one day have to stop making Zelda games, so before that happens, he “really would like to create something as close to perfection as possible not too far into the future” and “retire with no regrets.”

Masahiro Sakurai attends work at Namco Bandai each day so that he can work on the latest Smash Bros. entry. Despite his lingering arm condition, he still makes sure to show up at 10 AM without taking any unnecessary days off. That doesn’t mean he’s forced to, though.
Sakurai, writing in his bi-weekly Famitsu column, said his office hours are completely up to him.
“My office hours are up to me. So long as I complete the new Smash Bros., I could show up only once a week, or only at night, or even telecommute if I wanted to.”
Sakurai also spoke about he ensures he gives his approval on all aspects of the game. He meticulously looks at the underlying elements, like the motions and UI.
“It’s just as important to check the specifications behind the development of things like graphics, sound, motions, characters, stages, game modes, and UI, not just the products themselves.”

The next Call of Duty and Skylanders are both scheduled to launch in 2014. Bobby Kotick, CEO of Activision, confirmed the news during the company’s latest financial results earnings call yesterday.
He said:

We expect multiple new releases across our major franchises, including the first Diablo III expansion, Reaper of Souls, along with the PS4 version of Diablo III and significant and exciting new content for World of Warcraft.
“We also expect to launch new Call of Duty and Skylanders titles and a major new potential franchise with Bungie’s Destiny.”
