Among the characters included in Batman: Arkham Origns is Anarky. While he isn’t lumped into the assassin’s group, he’s still very much an adversary of Anarky. Plus, he still maintains his anti-government views.

Creative director Eric Holmes said the following during a recent episode of PlayStation Blogcast:

“Ultimately, [Anarky] is an anti-corporate, anti-government… technically an anti-villain as well. He’s a guy who kind of does bad things but believes he’s doing the right thing.”

“He doesn’t like big corporations trying to control our lives or the government trying to tell us what to do. And he believes those institutions should get kicked out, and wants to take them down.”

“He’s planted a bunch of bombs in these institutions in Gotham, and Batman’s gotta go there and he defuses those bombs. And further on, in the Most Wanted campaign for him, Batman can hunt him down to where he’s headquartered and take him on.”

Holmes has some advice for those who aren’t too familiar with Anarky: don’t look into him too much. This way, some of Origins’ surprise can be kept when players experience the game.

The full North American Pikmin 3 and Mario & Luigi: Dream Team sites are now open. You can find them here and here respectively. Nintendo fans can check out trailers and screenshots for both games, as well as read up on game details.

One of Nintendo’s most-recent high points – from a business perspective – was when the company churned out a profit of 555.2 billion yen for the year ending in March 31, 2009. This was also when the DS, Wii, and Mario franchise were all leading the way in terms of financial success.

Yet as of late, Nintendo hasn’t been able to reach the same kind of heights it achieved a few years ago. The Wii U has been struggling thus far, and overall business has seen a slight decline.

Nintendo has always been a hardware and software maker, but some analysts feel that this tradition should be broken. Among major overseas analysts, one of their sentiments is, “If Nintendo decided to cut loose from its hardware and software, their profit shares may increase 2 to 3 times.” Some also believe that if Nintendo considered leaving the hardware business and brought some of its IPs – such as Mario and Zelda – to smartphones, the company could experience a dramatic recovery.

Nintendo, however, is against such a move, with company officials expressing: “Performance is temporarily getting better, you can’t get a true feel for Mario on smartphone or tablet, and this would also lead to a decrease in brand value over the long term.”

You can find the video after the break due to auto-play.

Ubisoft published a new post on its blog last week outlining some of the characters players will meet in Watch_Dogs. You can find a roundup of details below.

General

– Aiden’s “friends”, like him, occupy a moral gray zone
– These are the same types of “friends” who had put the hurt on Aiden’s family back before he became the man he now is
– Aiden will need the help from other less-than-savory people he’s met on his life journey on his path of revenge/maybe redemption

T-Bone Grady

– Lead story designer describes him as a “kind of a distracted, crazy guy who’s very tech-savvy”
– Also a “flighty, crazy hippie”
– “T-Bone is key to helping Pearce find the people responsible for hurting his family
– T-Bone will be dealing with his own problems
– Running from a barber and his own pat
– Some people died due to a mistake he made in the past
– T-Bone has to cope with this
– “he’s scattered and he’s affected by the things that happened in the past. He and Pearce share that. They deal with it in different ways, but they share that past and it bonds them in a way.”
– One point in the game sees T-Bone cornered by a group of men out to kill him, and he requires Aiden’s help

Jordi Chin

– To-the-point, has a wicked sense of humor, and comes with the solutions to all your problems, assuming you pay him
– Jordi and Aiden have a financial relationship and complicated friendship
– Can be violent and ruthless, but has a humor about him at the same time

“Pearce uses him a lot, to the point where they kind of become friends, but they both know they could kill each other if they wanted to. They like each other but it’s strictly business. If Pearce doesn’t pay Jordi the right amount, Jordi will not help him out.”

Clara Lille

– A bit of a mystery like Aiden
– Secret past
– Dangerous woman
– She can weave her way through any system and expose all of your secrets
– May be an ally, but could also ruin Aiden
– Aiden meets Clara early on in the game
– The two form a deep bond
– Has a dark secret
– Players will eventually learn what this is

Other

– Many more characters besides Jordi, T-Bone, and Clara
– Some may be allies, enemies, or both based on their moods/Aiden’s wallet
– Some unrevealed “old friends” re-enter Aiden’s life
– “The people Aiden crosses paths with have an opinion on what he’s doing. Their actions affect how he thinks.”
– Aiden will also cross paths with the hacker collective DedSec
– Aiden’s family is an important part of the story
– His family isn’t behind Aiden’s destructive/compulsive behavior

“Pearce is determined to find out who’s responsible by any means necessary. He doesn’t know who did it; he only knows his family was seriously hurt. He becomes obsessive about it. His family says, Let it go. We’re moving on. But Aiden can’t.”

Mario & Luigi: Dream Team sold just 99,972 copies in its first week in Japan with a sell-through rate of 25.49%. This is quite low given the performance of the series’ previous title.

To compare, Mario & Luigi: Bowser’s Inside Story moved 192,945 units in its first week with a 86.75% sell-through rate. Not only did the DS game sell more, it also did so with a smaller shipment. Consumers who purchased Bowser’s Inside Story were made up of a large audience – including grade school students and people in their thirties.

In its weekly report, Media Create mentions how Pikmin 3 launched one week prior to Mario & Luigi: Dream Team and was also a highly-anticipated release from Nintendo. That may have negatively impacted the word of mouth of the 3DS title.
