Hacked Octoling data in Splatoon resulting in crashes
Posted on 9 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in News, Wii U | 13 Comments
Splatoon players have long been able to hack their game to make Octolings playable. However, a kernel exploit has now been made public based on an older Wii U firmware version, making it much easier for people to modify their Splatoon save files and play as the character.
Normally you wouldn’t expect this to have an impact on other players, but that’s definitely not the case here. Those who encounter such users should stay in the lobby until they leave, and then play one more match. Why? Well, doing so ensures that the game doesn’t put their hacked Octoling character into your Inkopolis Plaza. Because the Plaza isn’t programmed to handle Octolings, your game will crash whenever it tries to load them. This includes the title screen as well.
It might be best for you to back up Wii U save data to a flash drive to be safe. If you run into the issues mentioned above, you’ll need to wait until the plaza is cleared at the beginning of a Splatfest. Hopefully Nintendo will take care of things via a patch as well.

Super Mario Maker stage DLC and more now available for Super Smash Bros. Wii U/3DS
Posted on 9 years ago by Dennis Gagliardotto(@LyonHart_) in 3DS, News, Wii U | 5 Comments
A brand new update is now up for Super Smash Bros. for Wii U/3DS following its maintenance, and with it comes a new batch of DLC.
We’ve known for a while now that the brand new Super Mario Maker stage would be making its way to Super Smash Bros. as downloadable content, but also included in today’s update is a stage making its return from Super Smash Bros. Brawl – the Pirate Ship stage.
Along with the brand new Pirate Ship stage – which is available as DLC exclusively on Wii U – the Duck Hunt stage from the Wii U version of Super Smash Bros. is now making its way over to the 3DS version.
Of course, it wouldn’t be a proper update without more Mii Fighter costumes. Included in the brand new update and DLC are seven brand new Mii Fighter costumes, which are:
- Business Suit
- Fox Set (StarFox) (Gunner)
- Captain Falcon’s Outfit (Brawler)
- Toad (Brawler)
- Viridi Set – Kid Icarus (Sword Fighter)
- Hunter Set – Monster Hunter (Sword Fighter)
As usual with the Mii Fighter costumes, you can buy them individually or as a bundle for a discounted price.
Here’s the breakdown:
Super Mario Maker stage
3DS – $2.49
Wii U – $2.49
3DS/Wii U – $3.49
Pirate Ship stage
Wii U – $1.99
Mii Fighters
3DS – $0.75
Wii U – $0.75
3DS/Wii U – $1.15
Be sure to download the new update if it isn’t done automatically when you boot up the game to gain access to all of today’s new content.

Ackk Studios willing to release YIIK on NX if the system supports Unity, Wii U GamePad talk
Posted on 9 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in News, Switch, Wii U eShop | 0 comments
YIIK may have a chance of landing on NX. Andrew Allanson, who is AckkStudios’ co-director for the project, told Nintendo News that the port is likely to happen if the Big N’s new system supports Unity.
Allanson said:
“Oh man, I know as much about NX as everyone else. If Nintendo’s new console supports Unity, we’ll bring YIIK to it. Unity is sort of like “program once, port everywhere,” so it’s a matter of, I’d say, around six weeks per console. It’s pretty short!”
Allanson also spoke about how YIIK will use the Wii U GamePad:
“… one example is the record. When you fight with Alex’s main attack (the spinning record), there’s a Wii U-specific move called Record Scratch where the GamePad becomes a virtual turntable.”
“You can do a bunch of DJ-style things that are exclusive to the Wii U version. The other moves have been tailored, so you execute them on the GamePad as well — albeit in a slightly different manner.”
YIIK is on track to launch via the eShop and other platforms this winter.
