Switch

The retro-style controller company 8Bitdo has launched a firmware update for their wireless controllers that makes them compatible with Switch. So now we can buy a wireless SNES controller from them and use it to play Ultra Street Fighter II, for example.

These will be a really great addition for when Nintendo releases their plans for Virtual Console on Switch. Keep in mind that these controllers can also be used with Windows, Mac, Steam, iOS and the NES Classic Edition if we have the right cable.

Nintendo Life has translated the five different control schemes that are already available at the Japanese ARMS’ website so that we can check out how it will be possible to manage without motion controls and with a Pro controller, for example.

Nintendo has announced the 2017 Summer of Play tour for its fanbase in the United States. Various activities are being planned for these events.

Along with playable games, attendees will be able to try out the New 2DS XL. There will also be various activities such as a photo opportunity “in front of the colorful visuals full of recognizable Nintendo characters like Mario and the Inklings from the Splatoon series”. Those who pre-order select games at participating GameStop locations near the tour stops will receive a Nintendo branded PopSocket mobile accessory device while supplies last. Also, My Nintendo members who check in with their QR Code will be given a free gift item while supplies last.

Below is the lineup of playable Switch games:

Koji Igarashi has talked about his upcoming Kickstarter project Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night at the recent BitSummit event in Kyoto. He revealed that development of the game is roughly 20 to 30% complete and he has acknowledged that he needs to “increase his pace” if he wants to complete the game by its intended release date of 2018. Igarashi also stated that the reason the Wii U version was cancelled was because the Wii U would not be a relevant system anymore in 2018. Since the game is using the Unreal engine and is being ported from PC, developing the Switch version is a lot easier. Finally, he’s thinking about showcasing the game at E3 since there are a lot of North American backers (although it is not clear if he meant this year’s E3 or next year’s).

CEO of Level-5, Akihiro Hino, talked with Nikkei Trendy about his personal experiences with the Nintendo Switch and at the very end states that the company is working on games that support the Nintendo Switch. You can check out the excerpt below.

Hino:“I think Switch is good. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is extremely fun. It’s almost dangerous. (Laughs.) Actually, playing with Switch myself, my impression [of the system] has changed a lot from when it was still in development. I was hesitant about its ‘play both inside and outside’ style, but I feel like there is a considerable potential there.

“Anyway, Zelda is a lot of fun, so I personally carry it around and play it as much as I can, even on airplanes. The model that Nintendo gave me is the one with the red- and blue-colored controllers, so when I carried it around a lot, the looks I got made me self-conscious. I bought the black controller that they released myself and attached it. (Laughs.)

“I think the Style of Switch is a wonderful fit for competitive games. You can play if you’re gathered in real life, as well as online. For example, I think the fact that the game lovers within a company can get together and play Mario Kart is really fascinating and interesting. And while I can’t say the content quite yet, we’re working on game(s)* that support [Switch].”
