Some of you may recall that Nintendo hosted Splatoon Koshien last year. The nationwide Japanese tournament did very well, and now it’s returning for 2017. First details were shared today about the new event.

Splatoon Koshien 2017 will once again consist of several Japanese battles throughout the rest of the year. It will then culminate on February 11 and February 12, where a winner will be determined.

As for the initial tournaments, those are as follows:

September 25: Tokai (Nagoya)
October 16: Hokkaido (Sapporo)
October 22: Tohoku (Morioka)
November 5: Kinki (Osaka)
November 20: Shikoku (Takamatsu)
November 23: Chugoku (Hiroshima)
December 3: Kyushu (Fukuoka)
January 21-22: Kanto (Tokyo)

The rules consist of the following: Turf Wars, all weapons, all gear, and eight stages in pool that are randomly chosen.

Speaking of the stages, these were the ones selected during a live stream hosted a short while ago:

1. Walleye Warehouse
2. Museum d’Alfonsino
3. Piranha Pit
4. Urchin Underpass
5. Kelp Dome
6. Ancho-V Games
7. Mahi-Mahi Resort

Nintendo has a few things in store for Gamescom 2016 later this month, aside from playable games. The company has now shared a bit more about its plans.

Pokemon developer Shigeki Morimoto, Splatoon developer Hisashi Nogami, and a developer behind Dragon Quest VII will all be appearing as guests. Tim Feldner is set to moderate the Nintendo houseparty on stage which will feature guests, signing session, live demos, contests, and more.

A select group of fans will be able to try out Zelda: Breath of the Wild at Gamescom. To have a shot at playing the demo, you’ll need to win a spot in the current contest (until August 8 for those in Germany, Austria or Switzerland) or win in the Pokken Tournament, Splatoon, Super Smash Bros. or Mario Kart 8 tournament at the Gamescom. Players who are victorious in the tournaments will also receive a trophy.

The Wii U exclusive Collateral Thinking, an “arcade-style action platformer”, has just received it’s first gameplay trailer. You can view the trailer for yourself below.

At BitSummit last month, Kotaku caught up with PlatinumGames co-founder Atsushi Inaba. Inaba touched on a variety of topics, including the company’s future plus interest in developing sequels.

Here’s what Inaba had to say about the latter, which prompted him to mention Bayonetta 3:

“For any time, if we have the chance to make a sequel, we want to do it. There is no title we don’t want to make a sequel for. So, of course, we want to make Bayonetta 3 and Vanquish 2. So, yes, we want to make sequels.”

Hideki Kamiya, who created Bayonetta, has also been vocal about wanting to see a third game happen. At E3, he said it’s “actually something I’ve been thinking a lot about” and Platinum has “talked a lot about it internally”.
