Wii U

Yesterday, [a]listdaily published a new interview with GameStop CEO Paul Raines. When it came to Nintendo, Raines discussed three topics: Wii U, NX, and mobile.

Regarding Wii U, Raines said that the system “was disappointing to everybody” – Nintendo included. However, he was quick to point out that Nintendo has strong franchises.

Raines’ full comments on Wii U:

“Wii U was disappointing to everybody, including them. They made some bold bets, and maybe some of them didn’t work out. But they have a lot of creativity there. They’re a very innovative group of people, so we never count out Nintendo. Even now it’s incredible how strong some of their IP is—Pokémon, for example. We could have a Pokémon weekend this weekend at GameStop and we would break sales records just because every time they put out a new game they have a very loyal fan base. Super Mario, Zelda, all those IPs have a huge, loyal fan base.”

Nintendo has revealed new details about its plans for E3 2016. As previously mentioned, the upcoming Zelda game for Wii U (also coming to NX) will be featured.

Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime will introduce Nintendo Treehouse: Live on June 14 at 12 PM ET / 9 AM PT. This will be followed by “a day of live-streamed gameplay of The Legend of Zelda.” Nintendo says it’ll “be the world’s first in-depth look at the game, which will also include commentaries by Nintendo developers.”

Fans can watch the stream on Nintendo’s YouTube and Twitch channels as well as http://e3.nintendo.com. You can expect “game coverage, behind-the-scenes info and plenty of fun.”

Nintendo is hosting a competition so that one fan and a companion can play the new Zelda game on the show floor. Starting today and lasting through May 10, a Twitter sweepstakes is being hosted for a chance to win a trip to the expo. You can enter simply by tweeting @NintendoAmerica a note about what The Legend of Zelda series means to you while using the hashtags #MyZeldaLegend and #NintendoSweepstake. Update (5/4): Bumped to the top. There appears to have been sort of mix-up. During tomorrow’s stream, 2006’s Momotaro Dentetsu 16: Hokkaido Daiidou no Maki will be shown. The Niconico page likely had an error. LEGO Marvel Avengers (Wii U / 3DS / PS4 / PS3 / PSV) was shown during the last broadcast, so Denjin Gacha probably copy-pasted the previous stream’s description when writing the description for the latest broadcast, and did not change the platforms for its featured game.

Original (5/3): The Momotaro Dentetsu series began way back in the late 1980s. Konami has now announced that a new entry in the board game-style franchise is coming to both Wii U and 3DS in addition to PlayStation platforms. This is the first time we’re seeing the IP since Momotaro Dentetsu World on DS back in 2012.

Details on the latest Momotaro Dentetsu title have yet to be revealed. However, it will be featured on the next Denjin Gacha Niconico live stream on May 5 at 9 PM Japan time.

Last September, a list of LEGO Dimensions “Series 2” set names appeared with code words. One of these had an “S” label, which prompted some to speculate that it could be for Sonic.

LEGO insider Just2Good dropped a hint that the label was referring to SEGA’s mascot back when the situation was transpiring. And yesterday, a second LEGO insider going by the name CM4Sci mentioned on EuroBricks stating that Sonic’s on his way to the game before adding, “I also know for a fact Sonic is in if that confirms anything”.

Brick Inquirer – who knows much more about these things than I do – says “CM4Sci’s word is about as good as it comes.” We’ll still consider Sonic’s appearance a rumor for now, but it’d definitely be interesting to see him in LEGO Dimensions. Perhaps this is one way in which SEGA will be celebrating Sonic’s 25th anniversary?

As for other hints pertaining to Series 2, Super Girl and Green Arrow are also rumored. Their additions would make quite a bit of sense!
