With Splatoon’s visual style, Nintendo wanted to do something “different” from the competition.

“Shooters have tended to become more realistic, but it’s not Nintendo’s way to do that,” legendary video game designer Shigeru Miyamoto told EDGE this month. “It’s [got] to be different from what other folks are doing.”

Elsewhere in the interview, Miyamoto touched on shooters in general. While Nintendo may not visit these types of games on a regular basis, Miyamoto said he likes their controls and he wouldn’t say that he’s not interested in the genre.

Miyamoto’s comments in full:

Activision has a new singing title coming to Wii U, Wii, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360. “The Voice: I Want You” will be released on October 21, according to a listing on Amazon.

Amazon’s listing states:

The Voice video game brings all the excitement of the hit TV show to your living room. From the Blind Auditions, to the Battle Rounds, all the way to the Finale, experience the TV show with the ultimate goal of being named “The Voice.”

The Voice: I Want You will include “chart-topping hits spanning Rock, R&B, Pop and Country”. Party Mode supports up to eight people, and there’s a Voice Coach Mode in which you’ll “learn tips and techniques to help improve your performances including breathing, singing runs and harmonizing”. Amazon’s listing additionally includes the following tidbit: “Impress the coaches and watch them compete for you to join their team.”

The Tonight Show host Jimmy Fallon shared some kind words for Mario Kart 8 on Twitter earlier today. It’s his game of the year thus far, and he enjoys playing the racer with the Wii U Pro Controller.

There’s a bit more to Mario Kart 8’s recent update than originally thought. Aside from what has been previously mentioned, the patch also does the following:

– Time Trials Miiverse post now can include a picture of the results.
– You can now display and hide the map in Highlights by pressing the -/Select button, and it also shows the name of the driver that the camera focuses on
– With Highlights of online races, it shows the player’s Mii, nickname and country.
– You can display and hide the map and player’s information when uploading a Highlight video to YouTube as well.
– Highlight videos uploaded to YouTube now have tags for the used parts (Vehicle, Wheels and Glider), and the time for Time Trials Highlights
– the skins of Yoshi and Shy Guy also have their own tags.

Additionally, here’s a look at adjustments made to the Mario Kart TV website:

– There’s now a “User Page”, which has a link to the User’s profile on Miiverse, Facebook/Twitter Share Buttons
– This page shows the user’s Race Rating, Battle Rating, Favorite Tournaments and uploaded Highlights to YouTube.
– You can now check Tournaments details like Schedule, Rules, Entry Code, Description, Rankings and uploaded Highlights to YouTube related to the Tournament.
– view a list of all your Friends and see Friends Currently Online
– This shows if a Friend is connected and it specifies if they are playing Mario Kart 8.
