Dark Souls II producer laughs when asked about Wii U version, says system “is a lot different from the audience for Dark Souls”

At this point, you’d be hard-pressed to find someone who would have expected Dark Souls II on Wii U. But a few comments from producer Takeshi Miyazoe aren’t exactly encouraging.
EDGE asked Miyazoe if publisher Namco Bandai had ever considered the game for Wii U. He gave a simple no, and then laughed when the publication asked why. He went on to explain, “It was more of a company decision,” before concluding, “I think the audience for the Wii U is a lot different from the audience for Dark Souls.”

Asked whether From Software and Namco ever considered a Wii U port, Miyazoe bluntly replies: “No.” When asked why, he explodes with laughter. “Wii U never came up, and we never doubted that (decision) either,” he says. “It was more of a company decision, so I wasn’t the one that decided this, but I think the audience for the Wii U is a lot different from the audience for Dark Souls.”

Japan: Wii U sales compare favorably to PS3, PS Vita in first year sales

Wii U’s first year sales stack up pretty favorably to the PlayStation 3 and PS Vita in Japan. During their first years on the market, sales came in at 1,273,555 units, 1,219,474 units, and 1,074,621 units for the PS3, Wii U, and PS Vita respectively. Taking things a bit further, sales stand at 1,343,139 units, 1,341,304 units, and 1,110,333 units for the Wii U, PS3, and PS Vita after 54 weeks (Wii U’s current position).
First year (52 weeks):
PS3 – 1,273,555
Wii U – 1,219,474
PSV – 1,074,621

Famitsu asks gamers, store owners about the system to get this holiday

Famitsu recently held a poll asking gamers about which system they’ll be purchasing this holiday. PS Vita came out on top, followed by the 3DS second, and Wii U third.
Store owners were also asked by Famitsu about what console they believe will sell the best during the holiday period. Thanks to the likes of Pokemon X/Y and Monster Hunter 4, 3DS was the most selected choice by a wide margin. The PS Vita and PS3 came in second and third respectively.
Sony Worldwide Studios president has more praise for Wii U

During an appearance on the Japanese multi-media internet talk show Kurokawa Juku, Sony Worldwide Studios president Shuhei Yoshida shared more kind words for Wii U as well as Super Mario 3D World.
Yoshida first told the audience that he owns two Wii U consoles. He then had some kind words for Mario 3D World, stating:
“The latest Mario game is really good, too. I think the Wii U is just getting started.”
Yoshida ended with the following:
“People can get together and enjoy [the Wii U], it’s got plenty of wonderful games. Nintendo helps raise and teaches the fun of games to people just starting out. I think that’s a very important thing in this industry.”

Rosalina and Luma can be right by each other or set farther apart. They’re both controlled by the player, so a smash attack can be done from far off. Remote control all the way!

Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze makes the GamePad go dark while playing on TV

Like many Wii U games, Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze supports off-TV play. But if you happen to be playing regularly – on TV that is – the controller will go dark. Retro implemented the functionality in order to “save battery.”
While we’re on the topic of controllers, Tropical Freeze will support a whole bunch of them. You can use the GamePad, Pro Controller, Wiimote and nunchuck combo, or Wiimote by itself (sideways).
