The Game Awards 2021 are in the books, and you could say that it was an interesting show. Many were expecting Nintendo to drop at least one piece of news, but it turns out that the company didn’t have anything to share at all. The only other year that’s happened was in 2015, so it’s certainly a rare occurrence.
Despite Nintendo’s absence, there was a good amount of Switch news. SEGA showed off Sonic Frontiers, Cuphead – The Delicious Last Course finally remerged with a new trailer and release date, and Persona 4 Arena Ultimax was announced for Switch. That wasn’t everything as there were new glimpses as titles like The Lord of the Rings: Gollum.
As part of Smile Fest Vol. 2 earlier today, Good Smile delivered the latest news about its Nendoroid figure series – including announcements that will be sure to please Shantae and Shovel Knight fans.
On the topic of Shantae and Shovel Knight, both are getting Nendoroids in the future. The two have only been confirmed with some art, though we should be receiving a look at their prototypes and the actual products down the road.
This year, The Game Awards happened on Thursday, though there wasn’t a lot to see for Nintendo fans. To be honest, the show was not very different from recent ones. As one of the sponsors, Nintendo usually presents one or two announcements. This year in particular there was nothing coming directly from the company.
In today’s video, I invited Bryce – one of the editors on the site – to join me in a conversation about Nintendo’s lack of presence at The Game Awards. We also talked about other highlights from the show such as the new trailer for Sonic Frontiers and the Cuphead DLC. You can check the video down below.
