Amiibo

Seems like Nintendo is fairly confident that the Animal Crossing spin-off Happy Home Designer will do well in Japan. The company announced today that the first shipment of the game will consist of 500,000 units. This includes both the regular version of the game as well as the one that will be bundled with the NFC reader. Both versions will come with one amiibo card.

Recently, both Splatoon and Fire Emblem Fates were basically sold out in Japan in their first couple of weeks on the market. It’ll be interesting to see how well Happy Home Designer does and if Nintendo calculated the demand appropriately this time.

Update: And both are gone. Didn’t last long as expected!

The Ness and King Dedede amiibo is currently available through GameStop’s website. Get yours here and here. When the figures go out of stock, we’ll update this post.

Comic Con officially kicks off this week with the illustrious SDCC. The show floor has been set up, with today being the preview event and the convention officially starting tomorrow morning, going until Sunday afternoon. Nintendo will once again be making an appearance this year, and it seems in their area they’ve set up a case containing some upcoming amiibo, one of them being the newly added Mewtwo to the Super Smash Bros. line of amiibo!

This is more than likely a prototype, but I don’t see it straying too far from this design and look when it officially releases, one would imagine sometime before the end of the year, if not January 2016, as the last wave of the Super Smash Bros. line won’t launch until Holiday season in North America.

So what do you think? Will you be picking Mewtwo up when he finally releases? Obviously most amiibo have been selling out, but with the popularity Mewtwo has garnered since Pokémon began nearly twenty years ago, it’s no doubt Mewtwo will be flying off shelves for a good while. Let us know your thoughts below!

Two more amiibo are due out in North America later this month. Dark Pit is scheduled for July 31, and Palutena is also coming out on the same day.

You may recall that Best Buy recently announced that it will be the only retailer in the United States to sell the Dark Pit amiibo. This has led some to wonder if Palutena will be meeting the same fate. Apparently not, if the latest rumors are to be believed.

Nintendo Inquirer has heard from “a reliable source within the community” that a Nintendo representative confirmed Palutena’s non-exclusivity. This would certainly be encouraging news for amiibo collectors!

Fire Emblem Fates is one of Nintendo’s latest games to make use of amiibo. Players can scan in Marth, Ike, Lucina and Robin from the Smash Bros. line for use in the My Castle area. Here’s everything we know:

– Characters appear in your plaza
– Each one will challenge you to a battle
– Speak to them and they’ll share humorous fourth-wall dialogue about their time in Super Smash Bros
– Robin says: “I have the strangest feeling that before coming here, I battled against many combatants… launching people, getting launched…”
– Ike: “I just remembered… before coming here, I matched up against countless warriors from all over the world to hone my skills.”
– When you enter battle, the camera zooms in on Ike, who performs his iconic taunt from Super Smash Bros
– Lucina mentions “that battleground,” a place where she “honed her skills by matching up against competitors from around the world.”
– Marth says he’s happy to see you again and says “As we spoke before, my bonds with everyone have deepened through battle.”
– He then claims that he wants to know more about you, and then challenges you to a fight
– Characters join your party after defeating the amiibo fighters in battle
– The main character will mention that s/he’s “is in the middle of an adventure”
– The amiibo characters will then respond differently
– Robin reflects on his own adventure, having fought many powerful enemies and making good friends
– Ike says that by following you, he’ll become more powerful
– Lucina notes that she came to this world to borrow your power
– Marth notes that he understands you better now, and would like to join you without interrupting your journey

Nintendo has announced a restock for the Splatoon amiibo in Japan. On July 9, consumers will be able to find the Boy and Girl Inklings. There are also plans to make more Squid figures later this month. The one thing that will not be restocked is the 3-pack, which has been discontinued.
