It’s time for the newest North American Nintendo Download report for the week of May 4, 2023. The latest releases include Dokapon Kingdom: Connect, No Place Like Home, and more.

Here’s the full roundup:

Double Dragon Gaiden: Rise of the Dragons

Publisher Modus Games and developer Secret Base, in partnership with Arc System Works, today unveiled Double Dragon Gaiden: Rise of the Dragons. The game launches on Switch this fall.

Double Dragon Gaiden: Rise of the Dragons is a new entry in the beat ’em up series that will let players experience “the early beginnings of the young Double Dragon brothers as they take on both new and familiar enemies in this alternate story.” As a roguelite, each playthrough will be different and “the difficulty of the missions you take on will change depending on the order you have selected them.”

Biomutant Switch

THQ Nordic and Experiment 101 are bringing Biomutant to Switch, the two sides just announced. A release is planned for November 30, 2023.

Biomutant is an open world action RPG. While it originally debuted in 2021, it’ll be appearing on Nintendo’s console for the first time.

The Switch version of Marvel’s Midnight Suns is no longer happening. In a blog post today, 2K and Firaxis shared the news.

It’s unclear what happened. The blog merely states: “Note that a Nintendo Switch version of Marvel’s Midnight Suns is no longer planned.”

Minit Fun Racer

Back in 2021, Devolver Digital released Minit Fun Racer as a special game for charity. That title has just received a surprise release on Switch.

Minit Fun Racer is a small racing game from the developers of the original Minit – which is also on Switch. We have an official overview below.

Switch is home to several incredible beat ’em ups, and we wanted to highlight newer games that exemplify both the immense quality and variety of the classic genre. For those that may be intimated by the genre’s old-school labeling, we think any of these games would be a perfect place to begin your beat ’em up journey.

In our newest video, Sam provides detailed recommendations to introduce you to one of gaming’s most storied genres and some of the best games you can play on the Switch today.

Ryo Nagamatsu Nintendo

Ryo Nagamatsu announced today that he has left Nintendo. This went into effect on April 30, 2023.

Nagamatsu joined Nintendo in 2006 and worked on some of the company’s biggest games as a composer since then. He was the sole composer on games such as The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds, Tri Force Heroes, and Link’s Awakening on Switch as well as Wii Sports Resort and Nintendo Land. He also contributed to Splatoon 2 and Splatoon 3, Super Mario Galaxy 2, Mario Kart 8, and more.

Ace Attorney worldwide performance

Famitsu interviewed Capcom COO Haruhiro Tsujimoto this week, and some of the more interesting comments came about when the Japanese magazine asked about a couple of the company’s older IPs.

Tsujimoto indicated that being able to sell things digitally allows for more possibilities these days. He brought up Mega Man and how Capcom has a better understanding of how much something like the just-released Mega Man Battle Network Legacy Collection could sell (which is already at over one million copies by the way).

Perhaps the most significant comment was Tsujimoto stating that Ace Attorney “is currently doing exceptionally well across the globe.” Capcom is focusing on the fact that the series was created by Shu Takumi to promote the upcoming re-release of Ghost Trick on new platforms since he led the way on that title as well.

Fans of Octopath Traveler and its sequel might be wondering if Octopath Traveler III could be in the cards at some point, but the team behind the latest RPG isn’t making any commitments just yet. This was briefly brought up in an interview with Japanese magazine Famitsu.

Director Keisuke Miyauchi, producer Masashi Takahashi, and artist Naoki Ikushima participated in the chat. Takahashi would end up sharing some interesting insight into Octopath Traveler II, and specifically how the team decided to opt for evolution rather than making big changes to the core gameplay of the original.

Mega Man Battle Network Legacy Collection sales

Capcom has announced a sales milestone for Mega Man Battle Network Legacy Collection, with it already selling over one million copies. That applies to all platforms worldwide.

Capcom didn’t provide a breakdown of Mega Man Battle Network Legacy Collection’s performance by region. However, we do know that as of April 23, total sales of physical copies on Switch in Japan stand at 58,717 units. Other regions and digital sales were undoubtedly big factors.
