Pokemon game quality regular releases

According to Takato Utsunomiya, the chief operating officer of The Pokemon Company, conversations are being had about how to keep up the series’ regular releases of games while also maintaining quality.

While Pokemon Scarlet and Pokemon Violet were well received from a gameplay standpoint, things came to a head last year when some fans expressed disappointment from a technical level. Performance and glitches were a problem in particular. Months later, things still aren’t at where some players had wanted.

Yet another trailer has debuted for Pokemon Scarlet and Pokemon Violet, this time showing new moves, a new Tera Type, and the return of some familiar creatures. The video is dubbed “Many Surprises Await in The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero”.

The trailer confirms that for The Indigo Disk, a bunch of partner Pokemon are making a return, from Squirtle to Litten. A number of new moves are showcased as well including Thunderclap. As for the new Tera Type, that tease comes in at the very end.

Another Pokemon Presents presentation came and went this week. It was a lengthy broadcast coming in at 35 minutes long, but if you were hoping for a bunch of announcements, you may have been disappointed.

The latest look at the Pokemon Scarlet and Violet DLC – including a final September release date for The Teal Mask – was shown and was probably the biggest part of the presentation. Outside of that, a number of other games and updates were included such as a new trailer for Detective Pikachu Returns. Pokemon Trading Card Game and Pokemon Stadium 2 dropped on Nintendo Switch Online as well.

There’s now been some discussion as to whether this type of Pokemon Presents is really necessary if there isn’t anything truly new to show. Where do you stand on the debate? And what’d you think of the August 2023 Pokemon Presents overall? Let us know in the comments below.

Smash Bros Ultimate bugs

Have you ever wondered about the kinds of bugs that were most common during the development of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate? Director Masahiro Sakurai provided new insight as part of his latest YouTube video today.

First up are grabs and throws, “as actions that forcefully control another fighter can easily cause processing contradictions.” This includes grabbing a fighter in the middle of a special move. The same also tends to happen for Final Smashes. Sakurai pointed out that scene changes in particular require restraining and releasing fighters and you need to ensure that nothing else enters the scene. Also brought up is terrain, especially in Stage Builder, and V-shaped terrain can cause a lot of issues. Lastly, the Spirits system can cause problems as well.
