A lot is planned for Gamescom 2020 this week despite the show going fully digital. Aside from Opening Night Live on Thursday and the Awesome Indies Show on Saturday, IGN has teamed up with the expo for four days of coverage.

As far as what to expect, there will be new game announcements, trailers, and upgrades on previously-known titles. A number of Switch games are already confirmed, including Captain Tsubasa, Jump Force, Genshin Impact, Little Nightmares II, Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin, Haven, Remothered: Broken Porcelain, King’s Bounty II, Gonner 2, Minecraft Dungeons, Grindstone, Wonder Boy: Asha in Monster World, and more.

Here’s the full schedule:

System: Switch
Release date: August 25, 2020
Developer: Metronomik
Publisher: Sold Out

No Straight Roads is a prime example of a game that is more than the sum of its parts. Its gameplay may be decent at best for the most part, but its constant explosion of beautiful art, vibrant colors, and glorious music make it an overall unforgettable experience that needs to be played firsthand to be fully appreciated. This makes it all the more unfortunate that its aesthetics are heavily compromised in its Switch version, sullying its single greatest selling point.

The SEGA Ages series has been ongoing since 2018 on Switch. We’ve seen a wide variety of classic games return on the system, ranging from Sonic the Hedgehog to Virtua Racing. But now after the development of 19 titles, SEGA Ages is coming to an end.

In an interview with Japanese outlet Game Watch, SEGA’s Yosuke Okunari confirmed that there are currently no plans for additional games. However, he did confirm that the team’s next project is moving along. And while we don’t have any specifics, Okunari suggested that we may still see additional re-releases on Switch in the future.

Wonder Boy: Asha in Monster World

Publisher ININ Games and developer Studio Artdink have announced Wonder Boy: Asha in Monster World, a new entry in the long-running franchise. Members of the original team are on board, including series creator Ryuichi Nishizawa as director, original composer Shinichi Sakamoto who’s leading the way on the game’s sounds, character designer Maki Ozora, and creative manager Takanori Kurihara.

Romance of the Three Kingdoms XIV

Romance of the Three Kingdoms XIV is coming to Switch, Koei Tecmo has announced. It will be released in conjunction with the “Diplomacy & Strategy Expansion Pack”.

Although Romance of the Three Kingdoms XIV has released on other platforms previously, this is its first appearance on Switch. The extra pack also “introduces for the first time in the series the ability to trade with Eurasia as well as new strategies that change depending on how the territories unfold, among other features”.

Here’s some additional information and announcement video:

Ninjala Sonic

Ninjala is getting a collaboration with Sonic the Hedgehog, GungHo has revealed. This was first outed as part of a datamine for the game back in April. Details of the collaboration haven’t been shared just yet, but the datamine indicated that we’ll be seeing cosmetic items involving Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles at the very least. The collaboration will be featured in Ninjala Season 2.

GungHo shared other information about Ninjala today as well. The next anime episode is planned for early September and will star Jane, a hacker for the WNA’s Info-Communications Division.

Nintendo Switch

Nintendo Dream‘s latest edition has an interesting teaser for its next issue. In September, the Japanese magazine will apparently be revealing a Switch game “that everyone will enjoy”.

Unfortunately, no additional information is available. While it sounds like Nintendo Dream may have a scoop, it’s not entirely clear if a different source will beat them to the punch with the news. Also note that while Nintendo’s Dream context indicates that this is a single announcement, Japanese doesn’t easily differentiate between plural and singular.
