Nintendo Switch Online

During its financial results briefing today, Nintendo provided an update on Nintendo Switch Online. The company says that the service is now at 9.8 million accounts, excluding trials.

Tetris 99 also appears to be doing well. 2.8 million accounts have played the game, Nintendo says.

Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night

When Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night was playable at PAX East 2019, some concern came about after fans went hands-on with the Switch build. Based on what was at the event, the game just didn’t run as well as it could.

505 Games has now shed light on what happened. Switch units at the show apparently overheated, which “caused the game to drop frames and not run as smoothly as we would have liked.” The same build as well as future builds have been “much more stable when the console isn’t overheated.” Continued optimizations have also taken place.

Persona 5 Scramble: The Phantom Strikers

During a concert in Japan today, Atlus announced a new Persona 5 spin-off. Persona 5 Scramble: The Phantom Strikers is in development for Switch, the company revealed.

Shuntaro Furukawa

During a financial results briefing today, Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa commented on a couple of topics. Along with discussing Switch’s momentum, he also discussed plans for entering China.

The official Japanese Fire Emblem Twitter account has shared a brief clip from Fire Emblem: Three Houses. We’ve already mostly seen this scene in the latest Nintendo Direct – it’s the one where Byleth, the main character / player avatar, saves Edelgard from a bandit attack. The Direct only showed the version with male Byleth though – this Twitter video also shows the one with the female Avatar:

Also, the Twitter account changed their profile picture to the Fire Emblem: Three Houses version of series staple Anna, which is our first look at her. You can see her in the header image above.

Nintendo Switch

Many rumors have surfaced over the past few months regarding Nintendo’s plans for future Switch models. In one report, we heard that the company could be making an announcement at E3 2019. Apparently that won’t be happening after all.

Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa commented on some of the speculation during a financial results briefing today. New hardware will not be announced at E3, he said. Furukawa added that the company has nothing to announced on possible new hardware, but it is always developing hardware internally.

Nintendo’s latest financial results reveal another major sales milestone for Switch. Through March 31, the system has sold 34.74 million units. That puts it above the N64, which sold 32.93 units in total.

If you’re curious as to what lies ahead, the SNES sold 49.10 million units. Further down the road, the original NES sold 61.91 million units.
