[Let’s Talk] Predicting Nintendo announcements at The Game Awards 2018

Nintendo has been present at The Game Awards almost every year. In most cases, the company comes along with multiple announcements. Last year was arguably the biggest with the reveal of Bayonetta 3, the news that Bayonetta 1 + 2 were coming to Switch, and the proper unveiling (and subsequent release) of Zelda: Breath of the Wild’s story DLC.
The Game Awards 2018 are less than two weeks away. It’d be very surprising if Nintendo didn’t have at least one announcement for the show, or at least a look at something new. Could we get a better look at Bayonetta 3? A first look at Metroid Prime 4? Share your predictions with us in the comments below.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate leaks / datamine roundup

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate comes out two weeks from today, but the game is already out in the wild. Whether it’s through retailers selling the game early or other means, fans are already getting their hands on it. Naturally, that only means one thing: leaks.
Like with any other major title, people are already going to work on Smash Bros. Ultimate to see what’s hidden within the game’s files. Music, bosses, and plenty more are already making the rounds online with more sure to continue.
We’ll be covering the leaks and datamines, but only in this post. No other area of the site will contain content not released by Nintendo. With that being said, we’ll round up anything interesting below. Do not proceed if you do not wish to be spoiled in any fashion.

Kill la Kill the Game: IF announced for Switch

Kill la Kill the Game: IF is coming to Switch, Arc System Works has revealed. The news was just shared today at ArcRevo Japan 2018.
APlus Games is developing Kill la Kill the Game: IF, which features fighting gameplay based on the popular anime. The title is planned for a 2019 release.

The Legend of Zelda series has experimented with many different visual styles over the years. Nintendo aimed for realism with Twilight Princess, but before that, Wind Waker offered a completely opposite feel with its cel-shaded look.
As part of an interview published in the newly-translated Zelda: Breath of the Wild – Creating a Champion book, art director Satoru Takizawa commented on the series’ ever-changing visual style. Takizawa had this to say on the topic:
Mario Tennis Aces reveals Luma, Pauline, and Boom Boom

Three more characters are joining Mario Tennis Aces. Luma, Pauline, and Boom Boom will be added to the game in early 2019, the company revealed today.
Based on how they’re presented in a new trailer, Luma will seemingly be first up in January. Boom Boom will then follow in February, and finally Pauline in March.

Nintendo confirms Smash Bros. Ultimate is the best pre-selling Smash game, best pre-selling Switch game

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is poised for a huge debut when it arrives on Switch next month. Thanks to Nintendo, we now know that it’s the best pre-selling game in the series. Additionally, it’s the best pre-selling Switch title – beating out Pokemon: Let’s Go, Pikachu / Eevee.
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate launches December 7. Expect news regarding the game’s sales to trickle in shortly after release.

Virtuos on making the Switch version of Starlink – “extremely technically challenging” meeting parity with other platforms

We’ve known that Virtuos worked on the Switch version of Starlink: Battle for Atlas. But as it turns out, the studio was extremely involved and handled a significant amount of development on Nintendo’s console. GamesIndustry spoke with senior technical director Jonathan Boldiga about what the process was like.
According to Boldiga, creating Starlink for Switch wasn’t easy. Ubisoft apparently “had very high standards in terms of what they wanted on the Switch platform” and the team had to do what it could to maintain visual parity across Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. In the end, Boldiga believes they were able to deliver “one of the best-looking Switch titles out there.”

Nintendo discounts Super Mario Odyssey, Zelda: Breath of the Wild, and more in Europe for Cyber Deals 2018

Nintendo kicked off a set of eShop Cyber Deals in North America yesterday. Meanwhile, in Europe, a similar sale has started with a few different games.
Switch owners can save up to 60% on titles like Super Mario Odyssey and Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Third-party and indie games like Enter the Gungeon and Wonder Boy are also included.
