[Review] Sonic Mania
Posted on 7 years ago by Philip(@P_Trah) in Reviews, Switch | 14 Comments
System: Switch
Release date: August 15, 2017
Developer: Headcannon / PagodaWest Games
Publisher: SEGA
Sonic the Hedgehog is a series that’s both famous and infamous for many different reasons. In his hay-day, Sonic was perhaps the number one rival to Nintendo’s best known character, Mario. During Sonic’s early days on the SEGA Genesis, or the SEGA Mega Drive for those outside of the U.S., the Sonic the Hedgehog titles received high praise from all over game’s media, and was seen by most critics as SEGA’s answer to Mario’s popularity. This success continued throughout Sonic’s 2D era of games, with subsequent entries receiving just as much, if not more praise than the last. However, once SEGA decided to make the jump from 2D to 3D, opinions regarding the changes to the series’ core became a bit more polarizing. Some critics and fans regarded the changes as a necessity to move forward in-step with the evolving industry; while others felt that the series was straying too far from the its roots and was starting to water-down what made Sonic the Hedgehog appealing to begin with. Over the years, SEGA has attempted to bring the series back to its roots in several ways, but none have ever quite captured that same magic that fans were hoping for. That is, until Sonic Mania.

Nintendo offers first (blurry) look at new ARMS fighter
Posted on 7 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in News, Switch | 7 Comments
Nintendo has said that the next ARMS update will be adding a new fighter. It also looks like the character will come with a new stage, as you would expect.
The teases are going up a notch with a new tweet published on the Japanese ARMS Twitter account just a short while ago. It gives us a first look at the new fighter, but it’s pretty blurry. You can get a very rough idea as to how the character looks below.
Pokemon devs would like to see a Rhydon racing spin-off, new kind of action game
Posted on 7 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in General Nintendo, News | 32 Comments
Game Informer’s latest piece of Pokemon coverage is all about Pokemon spin-offs. Game Freak co-founder, director, and producer Junichi Masuda and Pokemon Sun/Moon director Shigeru Ohmori were both asked about their favorite ones.
As for Masuda, he went with Pokemon GO, though he’s unsure if it’s actually a spin-off game. Ohmori went with Pokemon Snap. He said that one of the best aspects of the N64 title was printing out the photos in real life.

Game Freak’s Junichi Masuda was very stressed and had health issues while working on Pokemon Ruby/Sapphire
Posted on 7 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in GBA, News | 11 Comments
Which Pokemon games were the most challenging to make? When Game Informer posed that question to Game Freak co-founder and Pokemon director / producer Junichi Masuda, he referred to Ruby and Sapphire.
Masuda first told the magazine:
“With Ruby and Sapphire, the screen got a little longer and it was a different aspect ratio, a lot more colors and sound channels so the tech was improved dramatically. It allowed us to do a lot more and gave us more freedom, but at the same time it made it take a lot longer to do things and was more resource-intensive.”
“After Gold and Silver came out, it was a huge hit around the world, but shortly after everyone was saying, ‘That’s it. The Pokémon fad is over! It’s dead!’ It was a very stressful project, for sure. When we were first developing it, I had the idea in mind that it would be Ruby and Sapphire, and then the next games, including the titles, would be Diamond and Pearl, and in between we would do the remakes, FireRed and LeafGreen, so we could create this structure where you could take the Pokémon from the Kanto region to the Diamond and Pearl games.”
Is Nintendo teasing a new ARMS stage?
Posted on 7 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in News, Switch | 8 Comments
The ARMS Twitter account just posted another update containing the image above. It certainly looks like a new stage, doesn’t it?
The tweet has Biff talking about being on vacation and hearing that there is a fighter around here. He also mentions the sweet scent and exoticism in the air.
Everything points to this being related to a new fighter, who will likely be accompanied by a new stage as well. It does line up with what we heard from the datamine last week.
