At GDC last month, Nintendo unveiled a special 2D prototype created for Zelda: Breath of the Wild inspired by the series’ very first entry. One fan has now recreated it, allowing players to cut down trees, harvest food, shoot arrows, use physics, and more.

Breath of the NES can be found itchio here. You can also view a trailer below.

One reason why we tend to shy away from posting about fan-made games is due to Nintendo often handing out cease and desists notices. Creator Winter Drake says he’ll work on the project for as long as possible. If Nintendo gets in touch, he will “continue development with my own original characters.”

Update: The World 1-1 Podcast group has issued a correction. Axiom Verge is not confirmed for Switch, as the focus is on the already-announced retail versions (such as Wii U).

Original: Axiom Verge creator Tom Happ appeared on the latest episode of the World 1-1 Podcast. While speaking about his game, a Switch version was finally confirmed. It will also have a physical release just like on Wii U, featuring a copy of the game, physical manual, making-of documentary, and potentially the soundtrack as well.

Tapp has spoken about wanting to have Axiom Verge on Switch multiple times. This is our first confirmation that it’s actually happening.

Pre-orders are now open for Medicom’s big new Zelda action figure. It’s a 1/6 scale action figure from the Real Action Heroes line, based on Link’s appearance in Breath of the Wild. His sword, shield and other parts are even included so that owners can recreate action scenes.

The new Real Action Heroes figure is tentatively slated for December. You can pre-order it on Play-Asia here or AmiAmi here. Play-Asia has a reservation deadline of June 13.

Inti Creates has big plans in store for this year’s BitSummit. The company said today that it will not only reveal plans for Blaster Master Zero’s DLC, but also reveal two new games. It’s unclear if the unannounced titles will be on Nintendo platforms, though it’s certainly a possibility.

BitSummit will take place between May 20 and May 21. It will be held at the Miyako Messe in Kyoto.

Update: We actually have some news about the Wii U version. Unfortunately, it has been cancelled.

Ratalaika Games has brought several games to Wii U and 3DS. Now the publisher is preparing its first title for Switch: League of Evil.

The news was teased on Twitter earlier today:

You may recall that League of Evil was announced last year for Wii U and 3DS. Those versions haven’t made it out yet, as Ratalaika said it took some time to acquire the license for cross-play between Nintendo platforms and PC. In February, League of Evil was said to be hitting Wii U and 3DS “a little bit later on in the year”. It’s unclear what the status is currently, but we should be getting this Switch version at the very least.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is just a few days off. To remind folks about the big Switch title, Nintendo sent out a notice to Swapdoodle users and Mario Kart 7 players. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe’s art director specifically wrote the message. For the full thing, continue on below.

Wonder Boy: The Dragon’s Trap came out this week as a digital title on Switch. Lizardcube, the game’s developer, isn’t ruling out a physical version.

A new blog post states that the team is “investigating the possibility of doing a physical release later, however if it happens it probably wouldn’t be for all platforms/regions and may be in limited quantities.” Right now it “may or may not happen.”

Lizardcube said:

“The game is a digital download only. We are investigating the possibility of doing a physical release later, however if it happens it probably wouldn’t be for all platforms/regions and may be in limited quantities. We are looking into it; please bear we us that physical goods may not be at our reach and few studios at this point know how to manufacture them e.g. Switch games. So it may or may not happen.”
