We’ve been posting bits and pieces from Nintendo’s latest financial results throughout the day, but we have one final excerpt to share. The company’s report includes some comments about its activities and sales during the last quarter, which we thought was worth sharing.

Here’s the full excerpt:

During the three months ended June 30, 2015, for Nintendo 3DS, New Nintendo 3DS and New Nintendo 3DS XL, which were launched during the previous fiscal year as the newest members of the Nintendo 3DS family, continue to expand their sales, and the global sales of the Nintendo 3DS hardware reached 1.01 million units. As for the Nintendo 3DS software, Fire Emblem Fates: Birthright/Fire Emblem Fates: Conquest, which were released in June for Japan, got off to a good start, while titles such as GIRLS MODE 3 Kirakira?Kode (translation of Japanese title) and Rhythm Tengoku (temp.) gained popularity among female consumers in Japan. In the overseas markets, with the contribution from the release of Puzzle & Dragons Z + Puzzle & Dragons Super Mario Bros. Edition, which is the overseas version of popular games in Japan, the global sales of the Nintendo 3DS software reached 7.92 million units.

With respect to Wii U, Splatoon, which was released globally in May and gathered attention, marked 1.62 million units in sales and contributed to vitalizing the Wii U platform. The worldwide sales of the Wii U hardware and software were 0.47 million and 4.55 million units respectively.

Back in the day, Rare had plans to create a follow-up to Perfect Dark. Velvet Dark would have acted as a “sister” game to the N64 title, according to former staffer Gregg Mayles.

Mayles shared a photo of Velvet Dark’s design document on Twitter earlier today:

Mayles indicated that Velvet Dark would have been an N64 title, but there’s some debate about that. This is a very interesting piece of gaming history in any case!

The Japanese Super Mario Maker website contains a few additional details about the game.

First, when it comes to Super Mario Maker’s download, the file size will be 1.4 GB. Save files are 80 MB, and you can have one for each Wii U user.

Super Mario Maker will be compatible with a whole bunch of controllers. In addition to the GamePad, players can use the Wii U Pro Controller, Wii Remote, and Classic Controller.

One last interesting tidbit: it’s possible to save up to 120 courses in Super Mario Maker.

Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer launched in Japan today. You’ll find 39 minutes of footage from the game below.

Xenoblade Chronicles X will be making its playable debut in Europe next week. On Twitter, Nintendo announced that the game is going to be available for attendees to try out. We’ll be seeing the RPG in both North America and Europe this December.
