With the 3DS celebrating its third birthday in Japan yesterday, Renegade Kid co-founder Jools Watsham shared several tweets about the studio’s history with the portable earlier today.

One of the more notable tidbits of information concerns Renegade Kid’s engine. For some of the company’s earlier games – Face Racers: Photo Finish and ATV Wild Ride 3D – the company rewrote the tech. Renegade Kid is now doing the same thing for Moon Chronicles to ensure that it runs at 60 FPS with 3D enabled.

In other news, Watsham reconfirmed that the 2D version of Mutant Mudds (the game we know of today) was originally planned for Xbox Live. The studio’s “focus quickly shifted to the Nintendo eShop” after the 3DS was announced.

Murdered: Soul Suspect is one of many third-party titles not planned for Wii U. GameSpot asked Airtight Games chief creative officer Matt Brunner about why we won’t be seeing it on Nintendo’s console, and was offered a concise and honest answer.

He said:

“In all honesty, all the Wii U games I’ve ever played, the only good ones are the ones that are made specifically for [the Wii U]. And this just doesn’t fit.”

Murdered: Soul Suspect will be available on PS4, Xbox One, PS3, Xbox 360, and PC in June.

Nearly a year ago, Darksiders II was pulled from the European eShop. Today, however, system owners can purchase and download the title once again.

Nordic Games business and product development director Reinhard Pollic tells Polygon that the company was unsure why it was originally taken down, and wants “to make Darksiders available to as much people as possible.”

He said:

Nintendo has released new images of three tracks from Mario Kart 8: Sweet Sweet Canyon, Mario Circuit, and Thwomp Ruins. You can find them above.

Ronimo Games has announced Swords & Solders II for the Wii U eShop. The original game hit WiiWare back in 2009, and was later ported to other platforms – including 3DS.

Here’s what we know about Swords & Soldiers II, straight from Ronimo:

A sequel to the 2009 original, Swords & Soldiers II sends Redbeard and his gang of burly Vikings on an all-new adventure, making new friends and facing new enemies. This isn’t just about who can organize the best barbecue party anymore — this time the world also needs some serious saving!

More details about Swords & Soldiers II will be revealed at GDC 2014 and PAX East. A teaser site can be found here.

Polygon has obtained an official statement from Nintendo regarding the company’s recent announcement to shut down the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection in May. You can find it in full below.

The Pokemon Company International today announced that the Pokemon TV series and a pair of movies will be available on Netflix starting this Saturday. This includes the classic first season of Pokemon, Pokemon: Indigo League, and Pokemon: Black & White. You can find the full details in the announcement below.

Shaq Fu’s return truly does appear to be happening. Joystiq has published a pair of t-shirts sent in by a tipster, both of which will likely be used for a marketing campaign. This is on top of Shaquille O’Neal himself stating at CES this year that Shaq Fu 2 is coming.

Of course, this doesn’t necessarily mean we’ll be seeing a new Shaq Fu game on a Nintendo platform. But given the original game’s history on the SNES and Game Boy, we’d be remiss if we didn’t make a note about today’s discovery.

Donkey Kong Country became well-known for its pre-rendered 3D visuals. However, pursuing such a style came with a heavy financial burden for Rare. For the machines the team was using, each costed about £80,000.

Former Rare staffers Brendan Gunn and David Wise opened up to Nintendo Life about Donkey Kong Country’s visuals, noting:
