General Nintendo

Gaming companies are getting into the holiday spirit, and have been sending out good wishes to its fans on social media. Some of these messages include some neat pieces of art as well. We’ve rounded up the various greetings below.

Twitter has provided a fresh set of data about the most-tweeted video games in the U.S. to close out the new year. Nintendo made the list with several spots, including Pokemon and Smash Bros. Unsurprisingly, Fotnite came in at #1.

The full list is as follows:

Masahiro Sakurai started out at HAL Laboratory where he directed several Kirby games. About a decade later, he left the company and now operates on more of a freelance basis.

Sakurai spoke with EDGE this month about a variety of topics, including why he left HAL. He noted that it had nothing to do with losing interest in creating Kirby games. As far as Smash Bros. goes, he says it lets him make “something with more value and wide-reaching effects.” Sakurai added that he doesn’t feel like he’s “stuck in a rut doing similar things.”

This week’s episode of Nintendo Minute has gone live. In today’s video, Kit and Krysta try out the Fortnite Creative mode. Check out the full episode below.

Damon Baker has made it known on Twitter that he’ll be leaving Nintendo as of this month. Baker will be pursuing “a new opportunity starting in 2019” after more than a decade at the company.

Baker has primarily worked with third-parties for Nintendo. Over the past couple of years, he has appeared in a number of indie presentations – so he’s definitely a face many should recognize.

The latest episode of Nintendo Power podcast is now live. Host Chris Slate, along with guests Kit Ellis and Krysta Yang from Nintendo Minute, discuss the fan-favorite games of 2018.

Octopath Traveler

Famitsu caught up with a bunch of different developers in its latest issue this week to reflect on 2018 and look forward to the future. Octopath Traveler producers Tomoya Asano and Masashi Takahashi were among those who participated.

Asano started out by teasing that Square Enix Business Division 11 “is moving forward with the development of several games.” Meanwhile, Takahashi has expressed interest in doing more with Bravely, Octopath Traveler, and an entirely new series.

There have been several official Pokémon manga series over the years, but Pokémon Adventures becomes the first to be featured on the Japanese Pokémon website. You can check out the page here.

Earlier this year, we got a look at many scrapped Pokemon designs after a 1997 Pokemon Gold demo leaked online. Several months later, we have even more designs that were never used.

Japanese TV channel NHK recently aired a program that showed off a number of Pokemon, including ones that have never appeared in-game. We can see the likes of Lapras and Blastoise, a very-different Scyther, and even the original concept for Gengar and Rhyhorn that fight in the opening credits of Pokemon Red, Blue and Yellow.

Nintendo eShop

Dating back to this past February, the Norwegian Consumer Council has been taking issue with Nintendo over its eShop pre-order policy. Nintendo doesn’t allow for cancellations or refunds of titles that have been pre-loaded, which is the main issue here. The Norwegian Consumer Council feels that the policy breaks European law. However, since games can technically be downloaded prior to release, Nintendo believes that there shouldn’t be any issue.

Fast-forward a few months later, and the German Consumer Protection Authority (VZBV) is now taking legal action against Nintendo. Although this started out in Norway, because of where Nintendo of Europe is located, that’s why Germany is getting involved.

Nintendo should be heading to court in roughly three-to-four-weeks. However, it’s possible that we won’t have a proper outcome for over a year.
