Things have never been quite easy for the EarthBound series. Mother 3 in particular went through a very troubled development cycle having been in the works for multiple Nintendo consoles. It was also planned as a 3D title at one point as EarthBound 64 for the N64 before being scrapped. Mother 3 did ultimately release as a 2D game on the Game Boy Advance, but it has never received English localization.

A couple of years ago, we did receive a new look at EarthBound 64 thanks to a video taken at SpaceWorld 1996.
Zen64 has now managed to obtain the Nintendo Company Report 1998 via an auction, which contains more footage from the game. This ties in with SpaceWorld 1997.

Last year, a ton of Nintendo leaks occurred (otherwise known as the “gigaleak”) after data was stolen from the company’s servers. It brought us looks at beta Pokemon designs, early sprites for a few classics, some interesting proposals for the GameCube, and much more.

Things have been quiet over the past few months, but we’re now hearing that even more leaks have sprung up. Twitter user forestillusion has been documenting the news today and says it “contains source code to a Wii Service program (an upgraded version of GameCube Service Disc), and some documentation for various systems including the Nintendo Switch.” There’s also a new prototype build for Pokemon: Lets Go, Eevee, details on the cancelled iQue GameCube, early Wii Remote prototypes, and more.

Over in Europe, a new reward has been added to Nintendo based on Zelda: Skyward Sword HD. Members can claim the new postcard set and art stand.

The reward will set you back 400 Platinum Points. If interested, you can order it here.

Organizers behind Gamescom 2021 have shared an early list of participating companies for the online event.

Just like last year, Nintendo will be absent – likely due to a lack of a physical venue. There are some notable participants though, including Bandai Namco, Ubisoft, and more.

Here’s the full lineup:

Reggie Fils-Aime

As part of the Talking Games with Reggie & Harold podcast available to those that donated to the New York Videogame Critics Circle nonprofit’s mentoring work, former Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime spoke about what his last days were like with the company.

Before that final day, Reggie and his wife went into the office to clean up and pack a few items. Knowing how it would be “an emotional time,” he wanted it to be just the two of them. Reggie took some photos with items in his office, and those were some of the first pictures shared on his new Twitter account – which had an estimated 300,000 followers within the first day or two of his account opening.

This week’s episode of Nintendo Minute has gone live. In today’s video, Kit and Krysta unbox Zelda: Skyward Sword HD, the new Switch Joy-Con, and the Zelda & Loftwing amiibo. Check out the full episode below.

Monster Hunter: Legends of the Guild

Three years ago, Capcom and Pure Imagination Studios announced the 3D animated special Monster Hunter: Legends of the Guild. It has now resurfaced – and it’s coming pretty soon.

Monster Hunter: Legends of the Guild will debut on Netflix, and the streaming service has now issued the first trailer. The company says of the movie: “In a world where humans and fearsome monsters live in an uneasy balance, young hunter Aiden fights to save his village from destruction by a dragon.” Capcom notes that the original story “focuses on characters from titles such as Monster Hunter 4 and Monster Hunter: World.”

The Zelda & Loftwing amiibo has been “impacted by unforeseen shipping delays”, according to Nintendo. Some figures will be available as expected on July 16. However, the majority will be distributed later, with additional shipments now expected in August.
