SXSW 2020 canceled due to coronavirus concerns

Original: SXSW 2020 will no longer be happening due to concerns regarding the coronavirus outbreak.
Earlier today, Austin mayor Steve Adler said during a news conference that “based on the recommendation of our public health officer and director of public health, and after consultation with the city manager, I’ve gone ahead and declared a local disaster in the city, and associated with that, have issued an order that effectively cancels SXSW.”

Square Enix’s Yoshinori Kitase interested in remaking Final Fantasy V someday

Yoshinori Kitase has had a long and prestigious career at Square Enix. He joined the company in 1990, and one of the first games he worked on was Final Fantasy V. Because of that, and given that Square Enix hasn’t done a realistic retelling, he’d be up for remaking that RPG someday.

Nintendo of America letting its employees work from home due to coronavirus

The coronavirus outbreak continues to be a major issue worldwide, and Nintendo of America has responded to the situation by taking precautionary measures. In a statement sent to Kotaku, the company confirmed that its employees are now allowed to work from home.

Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto spoke about the public impression during the Wii era of Nintendo being for kids in the latest issue of Famitsu.
Miyamoto highlighted that people have come to expect the company’s reliability. This influenced their first mobile game, Super Mario Run, as Nintendo gave a lot of thought on how players would pay for the game. Miyamoto also stressed that rather than focusing on market trends, Nintendo puts the player first above all else.

Nintendo returning for Gamescom 2020

Similar to previous years, Nintendo will be attending Gamescom 2020. The company’s presence was confirmed by the show’s official Twitter account a short while ago.
Other publishers attending Gamescom include Bandai Namco, Bethesda, Capcom, SEGA, THQ Nordic, and Ubisoft.
Gamescom 2020 will take place between August 25 and August 29 at Koelnmesse, in Cologne, Germany.

Xenoblade Chronicles 2 – Pyra and Mytha figures getting a restock, pre-orders open

As fans may recall, special figures for Pyra and Mythra were produced based on their appearance in Xenoblade Chronicles 2. Units sold out quickly the first time around, but now you have another opportunity to purchase both.
Play-Asia has now opened pre-orders for a restock. Pyra is available here and Mythra is here. The two figures aren’t expected to be available for very long, so be sure to pre-order while you can.

In our continuing translations of Famitsu’s most recent issue, Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto shared some details on how he acts as an ambassador and protector of the Super Mario brand.
In this portion of the interview, Miyamoto discusses how the “Mario” brand needs a person who can call the shots on the criteria for what is and isn’t “Mario-esque”, so that’s what he does. He also ensures that he oversees any game that has Mario in it to some degree.
