We knew Devolver Digital would be hosting a press conference at E3 2019. We just didn’t know when. That changes today, with the company nailing down the final day and time.

Detective Pikachu had a Pokemon expert on set every day, Ken Sugimori was involved

As the first original live-action Pokemon movie, Detective Pikachu is a big deal. Everyone involved wanted to get things right, which meant having a Pokemon expert on set every day.

The last Kinda Funny Games Showcase was held at the end of 2018, featuring plenty of announcements and updates on existing games. It’s now been revealed that the event will be returning for E3 2019.

PlatinumGames on its relationship with Nintendo, Switch’s success

Going back to the days of the Wii U, Nintendo and PlatinumGames have maintained a strong relationship. The two sides have partnered on Bayonetta, The Wonderful 101, Star Fox Zero, and Astral Chain.
Speaking about Platinum’s relationship with Nintendo in an interview with VGC, studio head Atsushi Inaba noted:

Nintendo says cloud tech is advancing, but the company is focusing on creating unique entertainment

Cloud gaming is becoming more of a popular theme as of late. Just a couple of months ago, Google even announced that it would be getting into the space with its own service. Nintendo, however, isn’t going after this just yet.
President Shuntaro Furukawa, speaking, during Nintendo’s latest financial results briefing, noted that the tech is advancing, but not all games are immediately moving to the cloud. Additionally, the Big N is focusing on “delivering unique entertainment that only Nintendo can create” above all else.
Nintendo on why it partnered with Tencent for Switch’s launch in China, will be a challenge

Nintendo announced that it will be pursuing China as a new market for Switch. Tencent, a huge company in the country, will be helping to make it all happen.
During the Q&A portion of Nintendo’s latest financial results briefing, president Shuntaro Furukawa spoke more about the recent announcement. He addressed why the company is teaming up with Tencent as well as what the challenges will be like in actually releasing the console in China.

Tales of series surpasses 20 million units sold worldwide

Bandai Namco today announced a new milestone for the Tales of series. Since the original game’s release, over 20 million units have been sold worldwide.

Art surfaces for gaming cartoons that weren’t produced, including Metroid with a male Samus

Some incredibly interesting promo art has surfaced from an estate sale for a former DIC Animation City employee. Four cartoons are featured: Double Dragon, California Games, Castlevania, and Metroid.
You’ll notice that these images are all branded with “Super Mario Bros. Power Hour”. It’s unclear what this is about, though Kotaku speculates that it was possibly a planned expansion or sequel to The Super Mario Bros. Super Show!, which started airing in 1989.

Nintendo’s official UK store has opened pre-orders for the latest round of Smash Bros. amiibo. Pichu, Pokemon Trainer, Squirtle, and Ivysaur are all up here.
The new Smash Bros. figures will launch in Europe on July 19.
Ryan Reynolds recorded lines for Detective Pikachu bordering on Rated R, but they were cut

Pokemon is a series that can be enjoyed by anyone, regardless of age. The new Detective Pikachu film essentially maintains that tradition. Ryan Reynolds did try to push those boundaries, however.
Speaking with ComicBook.com, the Detective Pikachu voice actor said that he did record some lines that “would come out a little PG-13, bordering on Rated R.” Ultimately though, this content “didn’t make it.”
