If what is shown in this YouTube video is to be believed, it appears that the NES Classic Edition has been modified in a way to enable it to play a host of other NES titles, such as Dragon Warrior, Duck Tales and more.

YouTuber Arcaderu posted a video of himself scrolling through his list of games available on his NES Classic Edition, claiming that he can choose from 60 games to play on the console as opposed to the 30 that the NES Classic Edition ships with. Arcaderu claims that the console had been soft-modded, and that he did not need to open the case to achieve his results. You can view the video below.

Whatever turns out to be the case here, it would be wise to take this with a grain of salt for now. Arcaderu says he’ll release a video detailing the process of modding the device in the future, so keep an eye out for that if you fancy playing Darkwing Duck on your NES Classic Edition.

A month ago it was announced that Super Mario toys will be coming back as part of McDonald’s UK Happy Meal campaign. Now we have a look at the toys from the Super Mario universe, as a Twitter user got hold of the Mario one early.

It seems that there will be at least 8 figures as part of this advertising campaign. They are expected to be gifted with Happy Meals through this month of January and the first week of February. The promotional leaflets show that the Super Mario toys will be distributed in different waves for 4 weeks.

Additionally, all these toys are part of the same campaign that began today in all McDonald’s restaurants in Japan, though it looks like the UK will get fewer Super Mario figures.

Plenty of companies have come out with their own controllers and accessories for the NES Classic Edition since November. Now as part of the Retro-Bit line, the Retro8 Wireless Pro Controller and Retro8 Wired Pro Controller are on the way.

The wireless version connects through a special dongle, and supports up to ten hours of gameplay. It also comes with a 3.5 foot micro USB charge cable. It’s launching in March for $19.99.

The wired controller will ship a bit sooner, as it’s planned for February with a $9.99 price point. You can connect it to the NES Classic Edition with a ten foot cord.

Worth mentioning, both of these controllers also work with the Wii U and Wii.

Update: Tomita has clarified on Twitter that he will still work with Good-Feel, but as a freelancer.

Tomoya Tomita worked as a composer for Konami way back in the day before moving on to Good-Feel during the Wii era. In collaboration with Nintendo, he contributed to the music of Wario Land: Shake It, Kirby’s Epic Yarn, Yoshi’s Woolly World, and more.

Tomita has now decided to depart from Good-Feel and is a freelancer. He just made the move at the start of 2017. Tomita is now taking on requests, and even uploaded unused music from Yoshi’s Woolly World.

The latest episode of Nintendo’s Japanese show Nyannyan Neko Mario Time has now gone live. We’ve included it below.

Sadbot has been revealed for Runner3. In the latest issue of Nintendo Dream, there’s a one-page article on the game and new playable character.

The magazine has this to say about Sadbot:

“As for Sadbot, he may just be the very first Bit.Trip baby! Radbot, CommanderVideo’s hulking sidekick from the original Bit.Trip Runner, was too massive to make the journey for Runner3, so he grabbed some junk and made Sadbot – a smaller, stranger robot boy, born to run as Radbot’s proxy. His bucket-headed profile and torso built from canned Schlortz Premium Matt Fluid both beg the question: What lies in the soul of Sadbot? If Radbot uploaded his psyche into Sadbot’s motherboard, does that make Sadbot a mental clone of his ‘father,’ or will the sweet, lingering Sclortz in Sadbot’s heart-shaped hard drive intermingle with Radbot’s CPU to create a wholly unique mechanical offspring? Only time will tell.”

If that wasn’t enough, Nintendo Force also teases a Switch release of Runner3. While that was largely expected already, this blurb from the magazine is very interesting:

“Speaking of time and telling, we’ve heard that Nintendo is asking indie developers who have Switch games in the works to stay quiet for now. That means, for the moment, we can’t confirm if Runner3 is Switch-bound or not. We also can’t encourage you to look back on Choice Provisions’ consistent history of support for Nintendo consoles so that you may draw your own conclusions on where this Rhythm Alien’s future legend will soon be told. In fact, we may have already run our mouths off too much as it is!”

My Nintendo added in some discounts for North American members a few days ago. However, there’s one additional reward not on the site until now.

For 20 Gold Points, you can pick up a 30% discount on Kirby & The Amazing Mirror. It expires on April 2 – just like the previous discounts from the weekend.

Thanks to TruExtent for the tip.
