Since 2011, Activision has shipped new Skylanders games on an annual basis. But if a new report from Liam Robertson is spot on, the series may not be receiving a new entry next year – or in the near future for that matter.

Robertson (who accurately leaked information about Skylanders SuperChargers in 2015) claims that development on Skylanders 2017 ended, in large part due to a trend in declining game sales and interest for the franchise. Viewership for the new Skylanders Academy show on Netflix is apparently not up to snuff, nor are merchandise sales. Activision apparently has no new Skylanders game in the works currently. Additionally, primary developer Toys for Bob is waiting to hear from Activision about its future.

Here’s the full report from Robertson:

When The Game Awards 2016 nominees were initially announced, AM2R and Pokemon Uranium were both included for “Best Fan Game”. Last weekend though, it was discovered that both had been pulled from the ballot.

During a Twitch stream this week, The Game Awards 2016 creator and host Geoff Keighley commented on why the two fan games were taken down from the category. His explanation is largely what most expected.

Keighley said that the show “couldn’t obtain the clearance” to have AM2R and Pokemon Uraniun represented at The Game Awards. Game companies find out about the nominees at the same time as everyone else. “It became clear once we announced the nominees that we weren’t going to be able to get clearance on those games from Nintendo,” Keighley said. Had AM2R and Pokemon Uranium remained as nominees, The Game Awards 2016 could have been “potentially at risk for take down” – just like the games themselves earlier in the year.

Head past the break for Keighley’s full comments.

The Nintendo UK store discounted a bunch of figures on its online store for Black Friday. Mario, Zelda, Metroid, Kirby, Star Fox, Mega Man, and Monster Hunter products are up to 40 percent off. Head on over here for the full lineup.

Two new Nintendo-related figures were shown off at Mega Hobby Expo 2016 Autumn earlier today. One is from Pokemon while the other is based on Mega Man.

First, an Ash figure with Charizard and Pikachu is on the way. It’s a part of MegaHouse’s G.E.M. Series and is slated for spring.

We also have a look at an upcoming product depicting a key moment from Mega Man X with Mega Man and Zero. Yoshihiro Iwamoto, who worked on the Mega Man X manga, is involved with the piece.

We’ve included a few photos of both figures below.

“Our participation as a publisher for the Nintendo Switch has been announced, and while we don’t have any news on that front to share, the device is making for some interesting potential,” he said.
