General Nintendo

Last week, we reported on Tappingo coming to Europe soon, with the exception of Germany, where the game will not be released likely in part due to the cost of having to acquire an age rating for Germany in addition to the PEGI rating required for the rest of Europe. However, situations like that might soon be a thing of the past. GoNintendo reports that the Nintendo eShop, in addition to other platforms, will join the IARC (International Age Rating Coalition), which allows to developers to more easily obtain appropriate age ratings for various regions simply be filling out a form. In an increasingly globalized marketplace, this is certainly a welcome option.

It might be a while before this has a tangible benefit for Nintendo platforms, but it’s definitely a step in the right direction. We’ll keep you updated on further developments.

Update: Bumped to the top. Also wanted to throw in that Splatoon has seen one of the highest sell-through rates for any game in Japan. There could be more, but we’re only aware of two titles with a sell-through rate of 97 percent. Those are Pokemon Diamond (97.12 percent) and Gundam True Odyssey (97.2 percent). Splatoon outperformed both of these titles.

During its first week in Japan, Splatoon sold 145,000 copies. Media Create has now shared a follow-up report on the game’s sales as well as related amiibo.

In terms of the best opening weeks on Wii U, Splatoon is only behind the Mario series and Super Smash Bros. Media Create points out that this is a favorable start for a brand new title.

We previously heard earlier in the week that the game was selling through roughly 90 percent of its stock. However, Media Create reveals that the percentage actually finished at 97.33 percent, with a lot of stores being sold out since release date.

Reddit user ZoomBoppo has expended a huge amount of effort into finding the “secrets” within amiibo. After going through the figures’ code in-depth, he was able to determine some potentially interesting findings.

Here’s a quick roundup:

– It’s very likely ZSS and Dr. Mario will work the same as Samus and Mario respectively in games like Mario Kart 8 and Ace Combat, with Dr. Mario being usable in Mario Party 10.
– There may be a Rosalina amiibo without Luma, likely for the Super Mario series.
– Space is reserved for every Pokemon, which could mean anything.
– Mii Fighters are coming.
– It’s likely there are 2 more Mario-series amiibo yet to be announced.
– There are two amiibo series in limbo. They could either be YWW and AC, or two completely unannounced ones.

If you’d like to take a peak at the huge amount of work that went into these findings, you can check out the Reddit page here. Just keep in mind that nothing is confirmed until Nintendo makes announcements.
