Deadline is reporting that Dwayne Johnson – otherwise known as The Rock – will be starring in a live action movie based on the Midway game Rampage.

In the original title, players could take on the roles of George the gorilla, Lizzie the lizard and Ralph the werewolf. The game tasks them with reducing different North American cities to rubble.

New Line Cinema is handling the film, which will begin production next summer. Plot details are currently being kept under wraps, but Johnson’s character “gets in [the monsters’] way.”

Ryan Eagle is handling the Rampage movie script. Beau Flynn will act as its producer.

Rampage originally came to arcades in 1986. It later ended up on the NES, N64, and GameCube in various forms.
