Tekken characters won’t be appearing in Pokken Tournament, according to Bandai Namco’s Katsuhiro Harada.

Harada told one fan on Twitter:

Ha, ha, ha. Nope, Tekken characters will not be making an appearance.

As we’re making a Pokemon fighting action battle game, I’ve already touched on this while on the livestream, but in this game there will not be a high/mid/low guard system mechanic. Instead, we’re planning to include a new type of [mechanic]…

Following today’s announcement of Pokken Fighters, the Pokemon Company launched an official website with a bit of content.

First, we have the following overview of the game:

The goal for this project was to enlarge the possibilities of Pokémon Company’s Pokémon series and to “bring into the world a Pokémon game that’s like nothing before”. This vision was made possible with the expertise in 3D action games that Bandai Namco has gained while creating games for the Tekken and Soulcalibur series.

In Pokken Tournament, Pokémon look more real than ever before and they move and attack smoothly according to player’s commands, so it is a completely new Pokémon battle experience. This is not just for children as the game can also be enjoyed by adult Pokémon fans in their twenties.

With cutting edge graphics, Pokémon battles are completely revived! Coming in 2015 for the arcades.

Head past the break for comments from the Pokemon president and a pair of Bandai Namco developers.

Capcom is suing Koei Tecmo over a patent infringement, and Sankei has some of the details.

Here’s what we know:

– Capcom is suing due to the patent infringement in games such as Samurai Warriors: Xtreme Legends
– A total of 49 other titles are involved
– Suit is for 980 million yen (about $9.43 million)
– Lawsuit says Capcom filed a patent back in 2002 that involves a function that lets you acquire new content by combining an existing game with another piece of software
– It appears that Capcom is effectively referring to the idea of expansion packs, and the concept of importing content into the new version of a game
– Likely covers expansion discs as well since the patent was filed in 2002
– Another patent mentioned in the report is a controller-vibrating notification feature when enemy characters are nearby
– Capcom claims that the patent infringement “has greatly contributed to the sales” of Koei Tecmo’s titles
– Koei Tecmo has seen a profit of about 9.73 billion yen in total sales
– Capcom wants to acquire around 5 – 10% in license fees
– They’re also demanding the suspension of sales on several Tecmo Koei titles

Nintendo can’t be counted out in the long-term, Activision CEO Eric Hirshberg has said.

Hirshberg, when asked about Nintendo’s current situation and what could be done to turn things around with Wii U, he stated:

It’s probably a better question to ask Nintendo. They are obviously not off to the start they’ve probably hoped they would’ve had with the Wii U, but they also have some of the world’s best IP and some of the world’s best game makers. I’ve always said they’ve been through rough hardware cycles before, but when you have the kind of game makers and beloved IP like they do, you can’t count [Nintendo] out for the long-term.

Activision’s lineup of Wii U releases have continued this year with The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Transformers: Rise of the Dark Spark, and the upcoming Skylanders Trap Team. However, it’s looking like Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare will not be arriving on the system.

Bandai Namco is behind Pokken Fighters, which shouldn’t be too surprising given the nature of the game. Well-known Tekken producer Katsuhiro Harada is involved with the project.

Pokken Tournament will be coming to arcades in 2015.

Famitsu’s reveal for the new Pokemon project will be taking place in just under ten minutes. We’ve included a live-stream below.

You can alternatively watch the proceedings on Niconico.
