Zen Bound 2 slated for Switch this month

A listing on the eShop shows that Zen Bound 2 is on the way to Switch. In both North America and Europe, a release is planned for May 24.
Zen Bound 2 is more of a relaxing game in which paint wooden sculptures by wrapping them with rope. This is accomplished by “rotating the Joy-Con in your hands like it were the sculpture on the screen.”

Coffee Crisis in the works for Switch

Coffee Crisis will see a release on Switch, Mega Cat Studios has confirmed.
The game is a “neo-rogue brawler that puts you in the shoes of the only baristas on Earth with enough heavy metal in their veins to fend off an alien assault.” You can play alone or with a friend while fighting in eight different locations.

Pokemon designers on the creation of Pikachu, inspired by a squirrel

Yomiuri Shimbun has gained new insight about the creation of Pikachu after speaking to some of the original game’s developers, including illustrators Atsuko Nishida and Ken Sugimori.
All those years ago, Nishida was asked to create a “cute monster” that met two conditions. In addition to it being an “electric type” with electric attacks, it also needed to have two stages of evolution.

Splatoon 2 is kicking off a major Splatfest this weekend. In North America and Europe, the first-ever tournament-style Splatfest will be held to determine which brother from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise is the ultimate fan-favorite.

Nintendo expecting digital sales to rise, but won’t take over all of its sales

During the Q&A portion of its financial results briefing, Nintendo president Tatsumi Kimishima commented on expectations for digital sales going forward.
Kimishima does anticipate that “the percentage of digital sales will rise steadily in the years ahead.” In fact, “the percentage of digital sales has already risen above 50% on some titles released by publishers outside Japan”. Kimishima does at the same time believe that digital won’t overtake all sales since “many consumers who purchase only packaged software”.

Ratalakia Games teases InkSplosion for release on Switch next week

Ratalakia Games has indicated that InkSplosion will be releasing on Switch next week. On Twitter today, the company teased:

Nintendo still wants to release 2-3 mobile games a year, possibility of 3-way collab with both Cygames and DeNA

Nintendo only released one new mobile game during the last fiscal year. But during the company’s latest financial results briefing, president Tatsumi Kimishima said that the original plan has not changed.
According to Kimishima, Nintendo is still targeting 2-3 mobile games per year. “What we want is to release applications for smart devices that can be played for a long time, and if we can increase those kinds of titles, then we will build a lineup of titles that consumers will truly enjoy,” Kimishima said.
Kimishima also said that there aren’t any plans for Nintendo, Cygames, and DeNA to all directly collaborate on new mobile titles. However, there is sort of a three-company collaboration based on Cygames and DeNA’s different roles.
