A heart-moving feature on a Zelda fan with a terminal heart condition who got the chance to play Breath of the Wild early is available to read on Waypoint. We’ve collected some quotes from the article and written up a quick synopsis to go with it. If you want to read the entire thing, check out the full article here.

Last July, Gabe Marcelo wasn’t sure he could attend PAX Prime. This wouldn’t normally be a big deal, but the 26-year-old’s lifelong heart condition had taken a turn for a worse, and he’d been stuck in the hospital for a while. The problem: PAX might be his one shot to play The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, the newest game in his favorite series, before he died.

“Being home bound for the most part,” said his mother, Anita Marcelo, “these dates were really important. They were his calendar, just as birthdays and holidays were.”

He found the strength to attend PAX. Though the plan was to only show up for a single day, due to his condition, Gabe managed to surprise everyone. His family helped him around in a wheelchair all four days. Unfortunately, Nintendo didn’t bring Breath of the Wild to PAX, prompting Gabe to ask his mother if she’d ask Nintendo for a chance to play the game early.

Internet chatter has been making the rounds as of late about GameStop and Target cancelling some Switch pre-orders. Reports have claimed that shortages are involved, resulting in the end of reservations.

However, GameStop has now responded, and firmly denies that any cancelled pre-orders are stemming from allocation issues. Those who are experiencing any problems are advised to reach out to the Guest Care team.

GameStop’s full statement is as follows:

“GameStop has not, and is not, cancelling any Nintendo Switch pre-orders due to allocation issues. We are working very closely to confirm and validate any and all pre-orders of this innovative gaming system. Should any customer who pre-ordered a Nintendo Switch console from GameStop experience any issue with their order, we encourage them to contact our Guest Care team so we can help resolve the issue.”

RPG Maker Fes will be released outside of Japan, a classification listing from Australia reveals. NIS America will handle the game in the west.

RPG Maker Fes has not been officially revealed for North America or Europe just yet. However, we do know that NIS America is holding a press event later this month, and 3DS news was teased among the upcoming announcements. We expect to hear something officially at the event, which takes place on February 17.

In Japan, RPG Maker Fes launched on November 24. It allows users to create their own RPGs without having to be familiar with programming, and creations can be shared online with others. A free RPG Maker Fes Player also came out at around the same time on the eShop. The downloadable app makes it so games created in RPG Maker Fes can be played for free.

In the past, the US eShop hasn’t allowed for the use of non-American credit and debit cards. It looks like that just changed recently, however. These payment options are now fully compatible.

We should note that only the 3DS has been tested so far. There really wouldn’t be much of a reason for the restriction to still be in place on Wii U though. If we hear anything otherwise, we’ll be sure to let you know.

Speaking with IGN, Fire Emblem Heroes game director Kouhei Maeda discussed how the new mobile release will be supported in the future.

Maeda told the site:

“We plan to add new stories continually after release, at a pace of about two a month or one every two weeks. We also plan to add things like new characters and skills, as well as new game modes that go in different directions from the current gameplay.”

Nintendo game director Shingo Matsushita added that Fire Emblem Heroes will continued to be worked on as long as players continue to support it.
