M2’s Tokihiro Naito was one of the creator’s of the action RPG Hydlide. While the series has been dormant for quite some time, Naito now wants to revisit the genre by making a brand new title for 3DS. If one of his tweets receives 3,000 Japanese re-tweets (overseas tweets won’t count) within a week, he will make a proposal to his boss.

Sakurai on the removal of character transformations in Smash Bros. Wii U/3DS, online lag
Posted on 10 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in 3DS, News, Wii U | 17 Comments
Super Smash Bros. for Wii U/3DS marks the first time in which there are no character transformations. Zelda, for instance, transformed into Sheik in previous games.
In his latest Famitsu column, Super Smash Bros. director Masahiro Sakurai explains that the change came about due to limitations with the 3DS hardware.
He said:
“It’s basically due to the 3DS’ limitations. It was impossible to have both characters exist together [as one] on 3DS.”
“However, reaching that limit can sometimes lead in good directions. Transforming characters had the drawback of ambiguous tactics and such, and I believe that they have become more fresh now.”
A few tidbits about the latest Wii U firmware update
Posted on 10 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in News, Wii U | 5 Comments
Reader TruExtent has been poking around the latest Wii U firmware update and came across a few interesting tidbits. They’re not the most important aspects of the upgrade, though they are neat little nuggets.
Here’s what TruExtent shared with us:
One of the photos shows the quick start menu. It has been updated to show if the software last being used was a disc. Look above the software icon to find a new image of a disc as the indicator.
The next photo shows what happens if you select the disc software if you have a different disc in. For my experiment, I replaced Ninja Gaiden with Mario Kart. What I remember happening before was the Wii U just starting whatever disc was in the console. Now it shows a message saying that you need to insert the correct disc in order to continue. Taking out and inserting ANY disc will start the software. If no disc is in the system, it will ask for a disc to be inserted; any disc will start regardless of what was on the quick start menu (like before).
In the last photo you can see more than one disc based software will appear on the quick start menu and both will have the disc indicator.

Nintendo and Super Smash Bros. join The Tailgate Tour
Posted on 10 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in 3DS, News, Wii U | 0 comments
REDMOND, Wash.–(BUSINESS WIRE)– Is a Buckeye a better brawler than a Wolverine? What would a Gator’s final smash against a Bulldog look like? Nintendo will help answer some of these questions, as the latest Super Smash Bros. games join The Tailgate Tour.
Nintendo is bringing the Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS games to top college football tailgate stops across the South and Midwest regions of the United States through the end of November. Before the players hit the gridiron, fans from rival schools will be able to settle it in Smash by competing in head-to-head matches, playing their own part in these classic rivalries. Nintendo will be keeping score as fans compete, with a visual display indicating whether the home or away team has the edge with the Super Smash Bros. action. A demo version of the Wii U version of the game will be used to pit fans of the rival school against one another, while the Nintendo 3DS game will be focused on letting friends settle their scores.
Stone Shire is another Minecraft-like game for Wii U (and maybe 3DS)
Posted on 10 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in 3DS eShop, News, Wii U eShop | 11 Comments
Finger Gun Games is working on another Mincraft-like game (which also takes inspiration from Dwarf Fortress and DnD) for the Wii U called Stone Shire. The game may also come to 3DS depending on its success.
Here’s an overview of Stone Shire straight from the developer:
The concept of the game is simple: explore, mine, and build. The player will be able to choose from different fantasy races that we all know and love, like dwarves, elves, and hobbits, and they will each come with their own special traits. To keep everything simple, there likely won’t be a leveling system. Your gains come from what you create and find. And of course, an exploration game would not be without enemies. One moment you could be fighting a goblin in the woods. Or you could be mining in the deep caves under a mountain, when suddenly you spot red eyes peering through the dark as a drow or some other beast desires to prey upon you.
Stone Shire appears to be in the earlier stages of development, but we’ll keep track of its progress.
