Final Fantasy Tactics The Ivalice Chronicles review

System: Switch 2, Switch (reviewed)
Release date: September 30, 2025
Developer: Square Enix
Publisher: Square Enix

It has been more than twenty-five years since Final Fantasy Tactics first landed on the original PlayStation, quietly establishing itself as one of the most influential tactical RPGs ever made. While its initial release was overshadowed by the mainstream success of Final Fantasy 7, the game steadily built a reputation as a genre-defining classic. Now Square Enix has brought it back with Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles, a rerelease that preserves the essence of the original while finally delivering content that western audiences never had access to. The timing is no accident. Tactical RPGs are enjoying renewed popularity, and Square Enix appears to recognize that players – both veterans and newcomers – are ready to experience adventure in Ivalice once more.

Coinciding with the launch of Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles, we have a new launch trailer. The tactical RPG makes its comeback today, arriving on both Nintendo Switch and Switch.

Lots of details can be found in the following overview:

Absolum animated series

Absolum will be hitting Nintendo Switch in game form soon, but a new animated series has now been announced as well.

Supamonks, a production studio specializing in animation, will be handling the show. It will be “offering fans of the game a whole new way to explore its captivating universe.” The goal is to “build upon Absolum’s lore and narrative, expanding its universe beyond the game.”

Release date: September 30, 2025
Developer: Petit Fabrik and Fair Play Labs
Publisher: GameMill Entertainment

Everyone has a generation of Nickelodeon that they grew up on. As someone born in the late 90s, my association with the brand comes from the cartoons and shows they were airing between 2000 and 2009. Although I would catch some older Nicktoons on repeat broadcasts growing up, like Rugrats and Ah! Real Monsters, the shows I most associate with the kings of slime include SpongeBob SquarePants, Fairly OddParents, Danny Phantom, Jimmy Neutron and Avatar: The Last Airbender (The Legend of Aang back home in Ireland), which all aired their runs in that period, aside from the first two, which had incredible staying power and carried on airing for much longer. SpongeBob right now seems stronger than ever, in fact. I now think of this time as a happy childhood memory of loving Nickelodeon.

Ninja Gaiden Ragebound D2 update

A second Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound update has been announced which is known as “D2”. It’s unclear if it’s on Nintendo Switch, but if you can’t download the patch yet, you should be able to soon.

The update includes tons of bug fixes, polish, and stability improvements. The team fixed checkpoint and cutscene soft-locks, adjusted boss fights and challenges, and implemented smoother animations and enemy behaviors.

The full rundown is as follows:

Shinobi DLC Death Adder

SEGA has revealed another piece of the DLC for the Shinobi: Art of Vengeance, which is none other than Death Adder. For those that are unaware, the character originates from Golden Axe. The latest DLC news was posted on social media today.

Of course, that’s not the only antagonist players will encounter in the upcoming DLC. SEGA previously revealed Dr. Eggman – yes, the famous villain from Sonic the Hedgehog. We’re also waiting to find out who the third antagonist is. Another unknown is the release date for the DLC, which thus far has a vague early 2026 launch window.

Starting today, Nintendo is now offering the latest firmware update on Nintendo Switch 2 and Switch, which is version 20.5.0.

You may not need us to tell you about this update if you’ve been keeping track of previous ones. That’s because we’re again treated to stability improvements, which keeps in line with tradition. Unfortunately, there’s nothing in the way of new functionality.

Nintendo shares the following regarding today’s firmware:

Tomba 2 physical

Limited Run Games will be releasing Tomba 2: The Evil Swine Return on Nintendo Switch in the future, and details about the physical release were shared today.
