Nintendo-related games see increased sales from the holiday period in Japan
Posted on 8 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in 3DS, News, Wii U | 1 Comment
The Obon holiday period took place in Japan last week. During that time, several Nintendo titles were boosted on the sales charts.
Yo-kai Watch 3 sold 93,000 copies for both versions between August 8 and August 14, up 144.65 percent from the previous week. It has also now managed to surpass one million copies sold. Yo-kai Watch 3 is the first title from 2016 to reach that mark.
Also due to demand during Obon, mainstay Nintendo titles experienced increased sales. For example, Kirby: Planet Robobot sold 15,000 copies. That’s a 130.40 percent jump from the previous week.
It’s also worth mentioning that the Olympics gave a boost to Mario & Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. Across Wii U and 3DS, combined sales were at 18,000 copies. They sold 1.5 times more than last week.

Bandai Namco has announced that the Wii U version of Pokken Tournament has shipped one million units. While this does not mean that it has sold that many copies, it is pretty impressive, especially considering that the game has only been out for five months.
