Wii U

Wavedashing, a well-known Smash Bros. technique, hasn’t been seen since Melee. However, players are now starting to explore some “bidou” moves in the series’ latest entry that is reminiscent of it in some ways.

To execute these techniques, a Wii U Pro Controller is preferred, and most buttons need to be remapped. For the most part, it relies on pressing and holding the special move button.

Kotaku explains the benefits of bidou in a new post today:

Bidou opens up the possibility to make perfect pivots easier, pull off crouching perfect pivots, sliding spot dodges, standing dash attacks, and achieve frame accuracy on wall jump attacks. It also makes dash dancing much easier and opens up a brand new tech called “quick step,” which is an even smaller movement than the perfect pivot. What that means in short: reduced lag, better momentum control, and being able to get moves out when you need them.

Here’s a look at bidou from My Smash Corner:

A big question here is how useful bidou will be in the end. Will it be patched in the future?

Super Smash Bros. director Masahiro Sakurai is back with another Famitsu column in this week’s magazine. This time around, Sakurai tackled a few questions from fans.

Here’s a summary of what was shared:

What’s better: printed or digital manuals?

Sakurai points out that he only reads manuals when he’s really stuck, so either way is fine. But for digital versions, it’d be better if they load up as fast as possible. (Note: Many people consider printed guides to be more convenient because they’re not located on the same screen).

LEGO Dimensions is half off on Amazon right now. It started out as a $90 game, but has now dropped to $45. Place an order here if interested.

Pokken Tournament players have found a two-move combination with Shadow Mewtwo that can provide an unfair advantage. By using the character’s backward-Y ranged attack and the transformative power of its Miracle Eye move, an endless attack combo can be performed. This is something that opposing players can’t stop blocking.

Kotaku goes in-depth with its news story today about why this is a pretty big issue:

It’s an easy combo to pull off, just back and Y button for the attack, then back and A for Miracle Eye. Get the timing right, and once your opponent starts blocking it’s all over. When a player blocks they experience a brief moment of block stun, during which they’re locked in block position. Shadow Mewtwo’s moves fire faster than the block stun cooldown. There’s a block break mechanic in Pokken Tournament, but this combo never triggers it. It’s pretty nasty.

Shadow Mewtwo does suffer damage from using Miracle Eye over and over again, but it’s never enough to knock it out, leaving it with one hit point. The combo can’t kill a blocking player, so in time they also drop down to one hit point. Since different Pokemon have different hit point amounts, Pokken Tournament gives the player with the highest percentage of hit points left at the end of the round a win. Shadow Mewtwo has the lowest hit points in the game, so its one hit point is better than everyone else’s.

Shofu also takes a closer look at this issue in a new video:

This might be something that Bandai Namco may want to look into! Maybe it’ll be patched with an update?
