Wii U’s YouTube application was recently updated. There’s not a whole lot that’s new, but a few general improvements have been made.

Users are shown recommendations based on viewing habits and subscriptions upon launching the YouTube app. The app is a bit cleaner and apparently loads faster as well. It’s also possible to press left on the d-pad to open up the same menus and content that you see on the browser version.

One thing that remains the same is keeping all content on the GamePad, and the television stays blank until you start a video. There’s no Pro Controller support sadly!

Soraya Saga has re-tweeted the news regarding tomorrow’s Nintendo Direct. You know what that means! We should be getting an Xenoblade update tomorrow. Some may have expected this, but it’s nice to receive an additional indication in any case.

We may actually receive some news about two Xenoblade games. Nintendo could have a thing or two to say about Xenoblade Chronicles X for Wii U as well as the port of Xenoblade Chronicles for New 3DS.

We just received a new photo upload from one of our junior field researchers! From the looks of it, this appears to be a floating oil rig. The open area on top sure looks like a good place to battle it out, but…it seems like a lot of work getting out here in the middle of the ocean just to throw down on a cool location. Just saying.

More:

It’s just been announced that a new Nintendo Direct presentation will air this coming Wednesday. Nintendo president Satoru Iwata will host the presentation, which will focus on games coming to the Wii U and 3DS this spring.

Fans can watch the broadcast at 9 AM ET / 6 PM PT. We’ll have a stream and potentially a live blog as the event proceeds.

I’m not really sure what’s going on here. It’s definitely some sort of bizarre glitch!

Thanks to Alex for the tip.

Time is quickly running out on one of the Club Nintendo promotions for Super Smash Bros. on Wii U/3DS. If you haven’t already registered your games, be sure to do that before tomorrow ends – otherwise you won’t receive your soundtrack CD. The CD will ship sometime in March.

Those who partake in the Club Nintendo promotion will receive two bonuses. Along with the soundtrack CD, players will be provided with free Mewtwo DLC this spring.

You can find more information on the official page here.
