Factor 5 almost delivered a new Pilotwings game on two separate occasions. The first instance was during the GameCube era, when the studio imagined a title that would have taken place in the real world during the height of the Cold War.

The second time a partnership with Nintendo almost emerged was following Factor 5’s relationship with Sony and after the release of Wii. In contrast to what had been planned for the GameCube, the Wii project had a lighter tone. Factor 5 was interested in creating an open world loosely based on Earth with various aircraft and missions.

City Connection brought a new Penguin Wars game to Switch this week in Japan. It’s a remake of the original title of the 1985 NES game, with overhauled visuals, online play, and more.

Although no announcements have been made regarding an English release, that could be changing at some point. Messages from Dispatch Games on Twitter suggest that something could be on the horizon.

This could just be Dispatch Games having a bit of fun and showing enthusiasm for Penguin Wars. Then again, Dispatch Games does have a connection with City Connection. The two sides worked together to localize Soldam: Drop, Connect, Erase for the west, including a physical version. If something is planned, perhaps an announcement will be made in the near future.

Nintendo’s website offers up concrete details about how amiibo support works in Mario Party: The Top 100. A listing for the game states:

Tap compatible amiibo figures to receive in-game bonuses on Minigame Island. Stand on a circle marked with the amiibo symbol and tap to get 10 coins. If the amiibo circle is occupied by a Goomba or Koopa Troopa, tap their respective amiibo figures for 50 coins! If your life reaches 0, you can tap compatible amiibo to restore one life. Each compatible amiibo can be scanned once per day.

Tap the Goomba or Koopa Troopa amiibo figures at the Minigame Pack selection screen in Minigame Match or Championship Battles for a shortcut to unlocking the Goomba Minigame Pack or the Koopa Troopa Pack.

Did you know that it’s Nintendo’s birthday today? Really, it is! Nintendo was established way back on September 23, 1889. The big N has certainly come a long way from the days of love hotels and making hanafuda cards.

Whereas last year was a bit of a down year for Nintendo, things couldn’t look brighter for the company. Switch is firing on all cylinders, 3DS is still receiving some love, Nintendo has its mobile games, and they’re dipping their toes into new areas like the partnership with Universal for Super Nintendo World. It’s definitely a good time to be a Nintendo fan.
