It’s tough to believe, but it’s been seven years since the release of Animal Crossing: New Leaf. It’s been even longer than that if you played the initial Japanese version. Animal Crossing fans have been clamoring for a new, proper entry for quite awhile now, and the wait was made especially tough since New Horizons was originally planned to launch in 2019.

But hey: the wait is finally over, and Animal Crossing: New Horizons has arrived around the world. Now that the game’s been released, we imagine that many of you have already started out on your island journey. Have you added it to your Switch library? What are your impressions of what you’ve played so far? Let us know in the comments below.

To celebrate the release of Animal Crossing: New Horizons, My Nintendo has added in two new wallpapers. We have a look at both designs in this post.

The wallpapers will set you back 50 Platinum Points each. If interested, you can obtain them on My Nintendo here.

With the coronavirus becoming a global pandemic, many people are staying inside and self-quarantining in hopes of avoid a further spread of the disease. That means many are turning to entertainment, including video games.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons may not have come at a better time. Speaking with The Verge, producer Hisashi Nogami said that he’s “very disheartened and saddened by the events happening across the world”, but Nintendo is hoping that “a lot of the Animal Crossing fans will use this as an escape, so they can enjoy themselves during this difficult time.”

Nogami’s full words:

New animals from Animal Crossing: New Horizons are arriving in Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp today. They include Audie, Judy, Sherb, Raymond, Reneigh, Cyd, Dom, and Megan.

Players can obtain animal maps via souvenirs from exporting to specific islands in Gulliver’s Ship. Animals can also be met by exploring and completing animal maps in Blather’s Treasure Pack.

It’s also worth noting that you can order some Special Items in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Meanwhile, you’ll get Leaf Tickets to use in Pocket Camp.

Nintendo has put out the official patch notes for Animal Crossing: New Horizons version 1.1.0. While they cover what was mostly known from earlier in the week, they include a couple of extra tidbits.

Below are the patch notes in full:

Nook Link is now available in the Nintendo Switch Online app for players of Animal Crossing: New Horizons. The service can be set up in game by hitting the minus (-) button on the title screen. This service allows you to scan and use custom designs from past Animal Crossing games, as well as send messages from your phone to in-game chat.

If you’ve ordered a physical copy of Animal Crossing: New Horizons from Amazon, there’s a chance that it may not arrive on launch day. Customer reports are surfacing on social media regarding delay messages from the retailer. Instead of being delivered tomorrow, affected copies now have a release date of March 24.

In light of the coronavirus, Amazon has started to prioritize medial supplies and household staples, which have taken precedence over other items like video games. One of the retailer’s warehouses in Queens, New York was impacted after an employee tested positive for COVID-19. Amazon ended up closing down that warehouse for a thorough cleaning.

You’ll not only need to connect to the internet to access the Bunny Day celebration, but you’ll also need to be sure that you’ve linked to a Nintendo Account once the start of April comes around. Keep in mind that Animal Crossing: New Horizons will be updated to version 1.1.0a, which actually activates the event.

IGN recently spoke with Animal Crossing: New Horizons director Aya Kyogoku and producer Hisashi Nogami. During the interview, one of the topics discussed was the collaboration art that fans have been making for the new Switch game and Doom Eternal. These two titles technically only share the same release date, but the internet has really run with the idea of Animal Crossing and Doom coming together.

Kyogoku told IGN:

Animal Crossing: New Horizons

Most Switch games make use of cloud saves through Nintendo Switch Online. Animal Crossing: New Horizons, however, isn’t one of those.

Speaking with IGN, director Aya Kyogoku and producer Hisashi Nogami explained that the lack of compatibility is in place to preventing cheating. Nogami noted how Animal Crossing: New Horizons is an online game, and cheating is a concern with such titles. Kyogoku, meanwhile, also said that the in-game economy could be abused if cloud saves were enabled.
