With Atlus preparing a new teaser trailer for Shin Megami Tensei V yesterday, Famitsu shared a new interview with Kazuyuki Yamai, who is leading development on the game. Although Yamai didn’t offer any gameplay specifics, he spoke with the magazine in general about topics like themes and keywords, as well as using Unreal Engine 4.

Gematsu translated the tidbits from the interview that have leaked online thus far. We’ve rounded them up below.

Atlus announced a new Shin Megami Tensei game for Switch way back in January. Then after many months of silence, the project resurfaced yesterday, and it was confirmed that the title is in fact Shin Megami Tensei V.

In this week’s Famitsu, it’s explained that Atlus decided to make Shin Megami Tensei V for Switch due to its playstyles. Players will be able to enjoy the story in HD on a television while also experiencing the game in portable or tabletop mode to put in the grind to level up and fuse demons at the comfort of your own bed.

Famitsu also confirms that Kazuyuki Yamai is leading the development team on Shin Megami Tensei V. He was previously the director of Shin Megami Tensei IV. Famitsu also notes that the concept is to look back and reflect on the characteristics of the times.

Today, Atlus announced that the new Shin Megami Tensei game for Switch is actually Shin Megami Tensei V. The news was just shared during a brief live stream held by the company’s Japanese YouTube account.

The following teaser was also released:

And that’s it! No news information other than that.

Atlus announced a new Shin Megami Tensei game for Switch many months ago. It’s been in the shadows since then, but the company will finally have something concrete to say next week.

As was previously known, the project is resurfacing on October 23. Atlus confirmed today that news will be delivered in a live stream. The presentation will air on October 23 at 5 AM PT / 8 AM ET / 1 PM in the UK / 2 PM in Europe. We have the relevant stream below.

Etrian Odyssey V has arrived in North America and Europe. Get a look at the official launch trailer from Atlus below.

System: 3DS
Release date: October 17, 2017
Developer: Atlus
Publisher: Atlus

Etrian Odyssey V: Beyond the Myth makes its numbered return since Legends of the Titan released back in 2013 for North American 3DS owners and brings with it a fresh new outlook while retaining the series’ staple of creating your own characters and telling yet another story of Yggdrasil, for better or for worse. While I’m a firm believer that Etrian Odyssey is one of the best dungeon RPGs around, if not the one currently leading the pack, Etrian Odyssey V also reminds me that while the classic mode is perfectly fine, the lack of any significant story makes for an overall grindy and unrewarding experience that doesn’t have exciting enough gameplay to make up for it.

Update (10/16): In an interesting twist of fate, Atlus has released Shin Megami Tensei: Synchronicity Prologue on PC. It can be downloaded for free here until December 24.

Original (10/13): Atlus has released a rather interesting trailer for Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey Redux, which will be released in Japan on October 26 and next year in the rest of the world. The trailer initially shows off a Metroidvania-style game featuring Jack Frost and Pyro Jack. This is a callback to Jack Bros., an action game for the Virtual Boy featuring those characters. Sadly, this apparent sequel to Jack Bros. is quickly declared “fake” by the trailer, which then moves on to actual game footage. Give it a watch:

Like many Atlus games, Etrian Odyssey V: Beyond the Myth will be sold with some special launch goodies. An official unboxing video showing off the full contents can be found below.

Etrian Odyssey V’s file size is in. If you plan on downloading the game, be prepared to have 4,364 blocks of space ready. That amounts to 545.5MB.
