Ken Sugimori has been working on the Pokemon series since the very beginning. In the Pokemon Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon Essential Setting Information book that came out in Japan at the very end of last year, Sugimori spoke about how he goes about balancing designs when finishing up Pokemon. According to Sugimori, he may “try adding something uncool to a Pokemon that is too cool, or I might add something cheerful to a Pokemon that is too serious.”

In this week’s issue of Famitsu, the magazine will be publishing an interview with Game Freak’s Junichi Masuda. While we don’t have our hands on the full discussion yet as the issue hasn’t gone live, some early quotes have leaked out early. We’ve translated the tidbits thus far.

First up, a general comment from Masuda on the upcoming project:

Today, Pokemon the Movie: Everyone’s Story debuted in Japan. At the very end of the film, next year’s release was teased. Pokemon the Movie: Mewtwo Strikes Back Evolution will premiere in 2019.

Reports out of Japan say that Masachika Ichimura, the original voice for Mewtwo, has voiceover in the teaser. He says lines like “Who am I? Where am I?”, indicating that he’s coming back as Mewtwo.

According to the Funko Reddit, a user stumbled across a Pikachu Pop figure at a Target in Ohio. It appears that it was not supposed to leave the warehouse or be sold to the public, meaning that an official announcement about Funko obtaining the Pokémon license should come soon. For now, it’s as good as confirmed. Unfortunately, the original post has been removed, but several reposts can be seen on the website.

It was also stated that the Pikachu Pop is a Target exclusive–whether or not this will be the same for all Funko Pokémon figures remains to be seen. A 10 inch version of the figures may also be in the works. Have a look at the leaked figure below:
