It’s been a busy start to the week for Nintendo rumors. In the latest round of speculation, Pokemon is the focus.

Nintendo and The Pokemon Company are supposedly gearing up for a reveal very soon. Emily Rogers, who has been both correct and somewhat off with past rumors in the past, claims that an announcement will be happening by the end of the month. Rogers brings up Pokemon GO as she suggests fans consider what that mobile game could mean for the future of the series. The name and branding may also “raise a few eyebrows.”

Siliconera has translated more comments from the new interview with Pokemon illustrators / designers Ken Sugimori, Atsuko Nishida, and Koji Nishino on Yomiuri. The three spoke about Pikachu in-depth, including why it was more of a “rare character” to find, a canned evolution called Gorochu, and more.

Here are a few excerpts:

Yomiuri Shimbun has gained new insight about the creation of Pikachu after speaking to some of the original game’s developers, including illustrators Atsuko Nishida and Ken Sugimori.

All those years ago, Nishida was asked to create a “cute monster” that met two conditions. In addition to it being an “electric type” with electric attacks, it also needed to have two stages of evolution.

There are many, many Switch games to look forward to, but there’s one in particular that’s a very big mystery. Announced at E3 last year, Pokemon is coming to the console in some fashion. Aside from the fact that it’s a core RPG experience, almost nothing is known.

Since little has been said about Pokemon’s first true experience on Switch, that leaves the doors open to endless possibilities. And hopes and dreams!

What are you expecting out of Pokemon on Switch? What’s a feature that you’d personally like to see? Do you believe it’ll launch this year or in 2019? Share your thoughts with us in the comments below.

Another interesting Nintendo patent surfaced this week. On Wednesday, the company filed an application for a “non-limiting example game apparatus” involving a “card display screen including an image of a card object” displayed on the apparatus’ screen.

What the patent boils down to is a digital card format, perhaps for something Pokemon-related. Here’s one excerpt from the application:

So it seems that Game Freak and Nintendo have filed for a new trademark known as “Ultra Shiny”, it is unclear what this will end up being in the end but it is interesting none the less. It could involve the Pokemon games, cards, or movies we just don’t know at this point.

Rumor has it that a Pokemon park will be added to Universal Studios Orlando. Following up on a report from Theme Park University blogger Josh Young, WFTV has also heard from “numerous sources inside Universal who say Pokemon is indeed coming to Universal Orlando.”

The Pokemon park will apparently be housed at the KidZone section of Universal, where Woody Woodpecker and Barney can currently be found. Nintendo’s Mario Kart and Donkey Kong roller coaster rides were apparently intended to be placed there previously, though they’ll instead be built at the 400 acres Universal recently bought near Kirkman Avenue.

WFTV reports that the Pokemon park will arrive in 2020.
