Reggie Fils-Aime

A few years ago, it seemed like The Binding of Isaac would never grace a Nintendo system. That’s because Nintendo seemed to find some of the game’s content questionable – specifically the religious aspects.

You may be interested to hear that The Binding of Isaac’s initial rejection didn’t come from Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime. Speaking with Nintendo Force, creator Edmund McMillen revealed that Reggie “backed” the game in 2012, though former Nintendo indie head Dan Adelman truly pushed for it to happen.

The Binding of Isaac is finally coming to Nintendo platforms this summer. It’ll be on both Wii U and New 3DS via the eShop.

Did you know that Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime is celebrating his 54th birthday is today? Here’s some art I made several years ago to celebrate!

I’m a horrible artist, but I remember wanting to make that project based on Reggie. It’s basically comprised of a ton of little magazine clipping pasted together to make Reggie’s face.

A second article from TIME covers several Nintendo-related topics in addition to mobile gaming. President Satoru Iwata, Nintendo of America CEO Reggie Fils-Aime, and Shigeru Miyamoto participated in the discussion. We’ve rounded up all of the tidbits and quotes below.

On amiibo…

– Iwata started sketching out the amiibo idea while on a bullet train in late 2013
– Iwata got more and more excited as he mulled the concept
– He dashed off a four-page pitch to his engineers

“It was something I believed would be completely new for us.”

Reggie and Iwata on how pursuing smart devices helps Nintendo…

“We view it as that marriage of the software with the hardware that together creates a compelling experience.” – Reggie

“If we don’t take an approach that looks holistically at the form a video-game platform should take in the future, then we’re not able to sustain Nintendo 10 years down the road. We would like to create several hit titles by effectively leveraging the appeal of Nintendo IP.” – Iwata

CNET has a few new quotes from Reggie Fils-Aime, president of Nintendo of America.

The site begins its article by mentioning that Nintendo’s franchises and games remain relevant today. Zelda: Majora’s Mask 3D, a remake of the N64 game, topped the U.S. charts in February.

Fils-Aime said that “Nintendo has always put out content that is lasting and is content that the consumer plays for extended periods of time.” He additionally mentioned: “In this games business, the axiom is that software drives hardware, and we’ve seen that over our 30+ year experience in this category.”

Speaking with Forbes, Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime shared more information regarding the 3DS’ strong success in the U.S. during the month of February.

We learned a couple of days ago that 3DS hardware sales are up 90 percent year-over-year. Fils-Aime also revealed that the handheld sold more units this February than the past two Februaries combined.

The New 3DS launch was the main catalyst behind the 3DS’ overall boost last month, and Fils-Aime noted that the system drove sales because “consumers are always looking for a reason to upgrade.” Nintendo believes that “making ongoing improvements to a hardware system really pays longterm dividends”.

How about this for a custom stage in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U. One fan has gone out of his way to replicate Nintendo of America Reggie Fils-Aime! The results are rather impressive, don’t you think?

Last week, The Seattle Times put up a few new quotes from Reggie Fils-Aime. The Nintendo of America addressed the company’s performance and talked a bit about sales, high-demand amiibo, and more.

You’ll find a roundup of Reggie’s comments below. You can find The Seattle Times’ full article here.

On whether Nintendo is now on a rebound…

“(Nintendo is) doing better this year than we did last year. The way I would frame it: Our goal is to drive an ongoing positive trajectory. Certainly with the momentum we’re seeing with our hardware, the momentum we’re seeing with our key software titles, that gives us a lot of confidence.”

A Reggie Fils-Aime amiibo won’t be coming out anytime soon, but that doesn’t mean Nintendo can’t make a joke about it! The company’s American subsidiary did just that with a new post on Facebook yesterday. View it below:
