SEGA published two new videos for Sonic Forces. Both are attached below, and offer the first direct-feed gameplay of Tag style gameplay as well as a new VS. Metal Sonic remix.

For Tag, the character leading depends on the move used. Sonic leads when boosting while the Hero Character takes over when using its Wispon.

Famitsu has a new feature on Sonic Forces this week. Along with announcing a November 9 launch for Japan, the magazine provides details about the game itself, including the Hero Character and new Tag Team stages.

One of the aspects Famitsu covers is avatar customization. In addition to choosing between the seven species, you can also set the gender, skin color, and face to your liking. Each Hero Character species will have its own unique gameplay abilities. For example, Wolves can pull in surrounding rings.

Sonic Forces

Sonic Forces has been dated for Japan. In the latest issue of Famitsu, the magazine reveals a release date of November 9.

We’re still waiting for Sonic Forces’ release date in other territories. It should be around the beginning of September, however.

A random game has joined the Nintendo Selects line in North America. The title in question is Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed, which launched for Wii U way back in 2012.

Usually when a game is given the Nintendo Selects treatment, Nintendo makes an announcement. It’s also fairly rare that a third-party game is added to the line, especially in North America. It’s interesting that this came out of nowhere, though as you may recall, something similar happened with Frozen: Olaf’s Quest last year.

Sonic Mania launched around the world this past week. Right around the release, Japanese site Gamer spoke with series producer Takashi Iizuka from SEGA. Iizuka spoke about how Sonic Mania came to be, why DLC currently isn’t in the works, and how the special stages weren’t initially planned… plus more. Note: light spoilers follow towards the very end of the post.

SEGA announced its lineup for Gamescom 2017 today. Along with Sonic Forces, Total Warhammer II will be playable at the Koch Media stand, located in Hall 9.1, Booth no.011.

The Sonic Forces demo will contain three stages. Gamescom attendees can play as Modern Sonic, Classic Sonic, and the customizable Hero character.

Believe it or not, a Puyo Puyo-esque game mode is tucked away inside Sonic Mania. You can unlock Mean Bean Mode, though it’ll take some work. You’ll just need to get gold and silver medals in the Blue Sphere extra stages first.

Here’s some footage of the mode:
